Back to work? I QUIT!
 

My third day back at work and I just told my boss that i'm leaving. It's about time really, i've been here since 2002 and been looking for a new job since 2004 but as I work full time I've found it hard to go to interviews plus the jobs I did get I needed to start immediately although I need to give 2-4 weeks notice to quit here...


I've got weeks of untaken holiday and i've got a job lined up early Feb so i'm finishing here in a few weeks and taking some more time off.

What triggered this though? Well, I sprained my ankle when I stacked my motorbike so i'm not in the best mood, especially when my boss hasn't even asked how it happened.. It's a trick to get out of work or something to him... The real "I'm not taking this crap anymore" moment came when I handed my timesheets up and he said they now have to be in on Friday or I won't be paid on the Monday (today) which is fair enough but recently i've been getting paid two or even three days late which I made no complaint about yet I get this crap about my timesheets? Hint, don't be overly accepting or people will abuse this trait.... I then mentioned how for the last two years my Payday as fallen on New Years eve and it's taken me to call him late in the afternoon to ask him to put my pay in which not only delays my plans it also upsets people who are waiting for me to get money so we can go out!!!

Plus my job is a repetitve, dead end, underpayed & overworked piece of crap where my achievements are not acknowledged while any slip up is commented upon and frequently I had nothing to do with what went wrong.....

id ilke to, but until i get myself a new job i cant make do on the 60 bucks a week im getting atm as a reservist (well which starts next week).

Im just hanging out for the ok from somewhere in the public service...

I know the feeling, can't leave until you find a new job. Lucky for me i'm at a stage where I can go a few weeks unemployed. I certainly won't be going on the doll, never have and never will. But I just can't do another year here, which is what would have happened if I hadn't said anything.

I'm thinking you are one of those rare people who takes their New Years Resolutions seriously.

Take it from me; initially I was not all that bothered by being made redundant from my job as a draughtsman back at the end of october last year. I had more pressing issues at home with my other half in hospital for surgery.

It was only after she'd got better (after about 6-8 weeks) and I had a chance to think about what happened, that a kind of weight settled on me. It's a real boot to the stomach and despite my skills and intelligence, it has made me question my ability to find other work.

When it comes right down to it, unless you work for yourself, you cannot trust anyone to keep your job safe or regard your work as praiseworthy, especially when the new managing director has been brought in to make the company more profitable. As we all know the best way to make a company achieve this is to get rid the lowest paid workers :damn:

Fortunately I've not had any money problems yet - redundancy pay has set me ok for a while - but this won't last for ever.

My dad quit his job too. They owe him hundreds of pounds in backpay, they expect him to get into a locked office building to hand in his tacographs, the lorries they give him break down within 2 miles, and their professional attitude is appalling.

Trouble here in the UK employers treat you like dirt by paying as little as they can then they wonder why your in a bad mood, something to do the way they act, like a strutting peacock, the whole issue is give and take but they the employer should grow up. I only respect a employer is they treat me well and as a human being and not some half ape for them to flog with verbal BS.

good thread this as ive mostly done admin=deadend jobs since leavin school. just turned 30 recently and im nowhere near where i want to be in life regardin job/money etc.

im so fed up doin low paid dead end jobs! reckon im gonna have to bite the bullet soon and quit this job to go back to college and try n learn somethin thats gonna earn me a half decent wage

Yeah the thought of going back to school is scary! College would be full of highschool leavers who still expect everything to be given to them by their parents. :cry:

Work is a value in itself where it helps you to realise yourself, adds something positive to your mind or general attitude, helps oyu to see value in what you are doing, helps you to dev elope yourself and your skills, or you are doing something good for people in need or the community. where you must do something, anything, just for the money, and the work is dull and repetitive, meaningless and dumb, there is no value in work for itself, and you indeed would be better off spending the time by sitting lazy in the park and enjoy the wind and the sunshine. If you can afford it, sitting in a park is better than just being a number getting kicked around.

I have such a dull job myself. I'm looking forward to end my current job in late autumn (at the latest). The management of that warehouse treats emplyoees as if they are nothing more than items. But even with a good working climate, such a job would not have what it takes to give you personal satisfaction. Many of my past jobs were like that. Fortunately I had plenty of opportunities to add countering experiences to my life as well, so overall it was a balance I kept about which I would and could not complain. Things are moving here, though.

In ancient Greece, the conception of "polis" included the understanding that the single individual would/should use his life to seek excellence in one field and sharpen his talents and form his capabiltiies to contribute by them to the overall wellbeing of the community. But this is absolutely not possible for so many people today anymore, adding to lacking orientation, lacking sense of being needed or even wanted, lacking meaning in life, and as a result: frustration and either depression or aggression. If you want to see the illustration of "nihilism", just do one of these kinds of jobs. what this kind of feeling can do especially with young males, does not need further explkanation, I think.- A lot of today's juvenile violence and crime is coming from that uselessness of life. That is the reason why giving such persons orientation, a meaning, a goal to reach, works so much better in socialising them, than just violently breaking them and expect them to obey the rules of conformity of the social society.

Happy are those who do a job where they can be creative and get a feedback from their job of being needed, valued, and feeling enriched in their own experience of being alive.

Well I'm a copper and as good as that may sound or appear to some others.....I'm up for a job exchange if there are any takers.
The other mans grass is not always greener.....and none of us is as clever as all of us.
You make the most of what you've got......those who are happy and content at what they do are extremely lucky IMO.
