Optimum Cruise Speed

I'm currently operating a Type II out of Keil in the North See. As this only has tiny little fuel tanks I want to make the fuel last as long as possible. What is the best setting for fuel economy??

I believe 8 knots is the most efficient setting.

you can always "play" with the knot dial and ask the navigator :P

Manually set 6 knots for a Type II and 8 knots for a Type VII.

Weather will affect your speed and the amount of fuel you'll burn. Therefore, when you set 6 knots and you're in bad weather, you will not actually be making six knots and you will be burning more fuel than in good weather.

To be even more exact - you'll be burning more fuel than in good weather on a certain distance, but the same amount of fuel in the certain amount of time. Bad weather conditions slower you, but they do not cause your engines to work harder.

If I remember correctly the optimum speeds are

6KTS for Type IIs
8KTS for Type VIIs and 8-9KTS for Type IXs
