[WIP] ROW Sky and Water Controls....

This post is to Rcjonessnp175, Sqk7744, Donut, Letterboy 1, Snuffy, W_Clear, FooFighters , and Reallydedpoet.

Guys, David allowed us to test the new Sky and Water Controls he made. His loss is devastating, but I know that David would have wanted this done. To my knowledge, no one found an issue with the changes, and I would like you all to either PM me or post here if any issue was in fact found.

I ask this because we owe it to Dave to see this test thru. I don't have the skill to fix any problems, maybe some of you do if any were found. If not, I think it needs to be released to the community. Dave would have wanted that. To keep this mod without releasing it would be a grave dishonor - unless you all feel that it should never be released, at which point I would request we all delete it. I honestly feel Dave wanted this - it is the least we can do. If we all agree there were no bugs, then I or one of you can release it with a simple readme paying homage to its creator.

I am using it for quite some time now, and it looks fine to me.
The only thing I was not really happy about was some reflections on the waves further away in the distance. I also mailed Dave how to get it better.
For me there was to much reflection. Especially when you go very low over the water with the outside cam.

Did any of you also have this small problem ?

Stary Wuj 01-12-08 02:57 AM

" For me there was to much reflection." - agree, for me to :-)
And water is too dark IMHO, looks like from SF movie.

Best Regards

Well guys - either of you know how to address this issue? The more I think about it, the more I think this should just be put out as an optional add-in piece to the existing ROW package. I have to admit - you guys are more detail oriented than I am obviously, because I didnt see this at all (meaning I probably just missed it!).

So what say you all, get it out there and let people use it as they want? That is, after all, what Dave would have done I think.....

(Ok - I admit - I just think it should be out there!)

ReallyDedPoet 01-12-08 11:08 AM

I did not see anything out of the ordinary with it, but to be honest I did not test it much over the holidays, and after Dave's Death not at all. But I agree here, Dave would want it to be done, to have his work completed.

May I have copy?
M:hmm:

Kriller2 was doing a lot of the ocean color work for ROW. Maybe he can help with the color.

If nothing else, it should be made available for someone else to try tweaking to get it to where Dave was heading.

Yeah I fixed it, I also had some PM contact with Dave about it.
He tested it but never had the chance to give me any feedback.

All fixes are in the scene.dat

About the water color, Dave always tested and created all files with PPS of.
The PPS options make the water darker.

skwasjer 01-12-08 03:19 PM

In the current public available scene.dat, there are 2 bugs. I don't know if Leo redid the scene.dat, and if those 2 bugs still exist in the file you guys have though. To be sure, send it to me and I'll have a look.

AVGWarhawk 01-12-08 03:48 PM

THis would be great guys if the two bugs are squished and the test file is made available to all.

Hi guys,

I worked alot on the textures and Dave's latest work yesterday and have something I want you guys to test, who is interested?

@RDP I will send you the file so you can see what I am working on..
Corrected some bugs and edited the ocean at sun set and sun rise to make the ocean less dark.

BTW I havent' touched the scene.dat, just texture work and the enviroment dat-file.

Just doing some initial testing on the file. Noticing a better color seperation of the water from morning, day and then evening. It is lighter dawn and dusk.

Couldn't resist posting this one :yep:

Send all testers in this thread the work (phew!)

Hi,

Sorry for interrupting in this thread, but after reading all the responses in the main Reflections of the water thread and reading this thread, I decided I want to help with this and see if we can finish what Dave started. It would be great if you will test the files I send you with ROW and tell me if it has corrected some of the problems you mentioned in this thread.

@reallydedpoet Thanks, that is what I was hoping for ;)

@Skwasjer Check your PM

Unfortunately I don't have an nvidia gfx-card, so Im using CptJokers sunmod, which can be downloaded here:

If some of you own a ATI-gfx card with no sun flair :)
