Promotion at sea with TM 1.75 and RSDC patch for TM 1.75

Been using TM and RSRD through various patches - superb mods both - but noticed something strange with the latest version.

After sinking my 5th ship of the patrol and heading back to Pearl, I checked on my crew and found that a number of them had the yellow arrow which a mouseover revealed to mean that they had just been promoted, I'd never seen this before.

Am I correct in thinking that this is not an inteded feature of TM or RSRD? Just wondering if I might have messed something up.

Mods installed as follows:

Trigger Maru 1.72
TDC range direct dial input for TM 1.72
TM 1.72 Betterscopes

5a ROW Textures with Sun Halo Camera flair vs_5
6a ROW Secial Effects with stock zones vs_5b

This is normal behavior, I have seen it in previous versions of TM and in the stock game.

Yup, it has happened to me too. Two ro three days out of Surabaya on my first patrol in Jan '42.
I was told it represents crew who have passed qualifications. I have read that apart from rest & maintenance, crew also studied for upgrading & specialisations in their off-duty hours during war patrols.

Fair enough. The qualification part makes sense.

Thanks for the explanations.

It's a really nice feature that they designed into the game. You can start out with 3rd class seamen grunts and over time they become an effective fighting force. I almost never "pay for" an experienced guy in port when I'm setting up or replacing crewmen. I save my points for upgrades and newer torpedoes.
