Bizarre game logic?

How logical is the game in assigning patrol grids?
I mean really. VIIB out of Brest, been slammin the convoys in BE. So what's next, send the boat to ET13, Freetown. Sure I can use Commander to change that, and sure the orders don't realy matter. But following the intent of the game that is a chunk of fuel for a type VII, even being conservative. And you know, there will be a random convoy or some jazz along the way to intercept.
Well I'm curious about the grid so I'll probably go.
I just prefer the Atlantic and it's typical weather. Didn't take long to figgure out in 1.03 that it is a key to success. In calm seas you might as well let off a flare to let them know your comming.

Patrol grid allocation can at times be 'erratic'......I've been sent to inland Spain on occasion

Just changeit with SH3 Commander

Im always being sent down to the Freetown area, there are alot of convoys and task forces heading for the MED, so usually i sit outside the Straits and wait for some juicy targets. Once i made it down to Freetown and raided the port, got a Liner and a couple tranports out of it

Wow billboards! So that's how the IX Kaleuns survive.
Being in a VII I can of course just slip away .. :|\\

It might be unlogical but in the war U-boats were moved around all the time, BDU had to guess where the new routes would be because the Allies kept changing them depending on the amounts of attacks on these routes.

The 'best' patrol grid I was assigned by BDu was BF16, this was when I was still commanding a type IIA:o . Needless to say I changed it with SH3 commander.

Maybe, you've just been doing such a wonderful job, you and your crew is just being rewarded with a gentle cruise in warmer waters.

Of course, you could also wonder why you would be sent to great white shark infested waters :hmm: Did your orders make any reference to offering up swim calls for both officers and men? Did your 1st officer have a private meeting with BdU prior to your departure? Just sayin' that a little paranoia is healthy when others are out to do you in (and a UBoat is a lousy platform to mount a shark watch from - nobody would see the beast until after it had bitten you in two).

When Jimbuna is 200 kms west of Gib, it is safe to operate there. No one dares to pinch periscopes then

Kaleuns had to deal with the fuel/torpedo issue in real life.

Hardegan took 23 days for instance to reach the coast of America using maximum fuel conservation, but had enough stored to return in only 10 days.

Also he was not allowed to use torpedoes on any ship less than 20K on the way to the coast.
