I can't find anything about copyright.

Do we need to prove we are the copyright holders for all source images or other
resources used, including programs?

Or are wee all fine using google images for material? If so, how far from the source
image must it be manipulated etc.?

Are you happy for us to leave our own copyright marks on the images?

Do you accept entries that are copyrighted by us, the creator at all?

Is it for commercial use?

Use your best judgment, images submitted become the property of Subsim.com and Subsim retains rights to full and exclusive use of the art. This is how I upgrade the website graphics. It's like a raffle. you submit art, I give out prizes. If you win the prizes, they are all yours, I won't ask to borrow them back :)

thanks!
Neal

Sorry to be awkward, but....

"images submitted become the property of Subsim.com and Subsim retains rights
to full and exclusive use of the art."

So if I submit something, I won't then be able to display it elsewhere or otherwise
use it without subsim's permission?
I'm not to chuffed about that.
You won't accept entries that are Open Source and free to use by all?

Your call of course.

Looking at the past entries... I think I let the pro's do it.

Uh, what? You are one of the pros, Dowly. Unless someone else has highjacked your forum account! :ping:

Fair questions, Letum. I have to add that condition to avoid possible (but not likely) misunderstandings or conflicts. I "retain the right" but I would certainly be open-minded about allowing the use of submitted material otherwise. To keep Subsim looking good, I routinely hire artists, request materials from Subsim members, and often compensate those who help me with a stipend or swag their help. This contest will be fun and generate some great art, and someone will win some cool stuff and recognition.

I will accept art using Open Source material, you decide what to create, in the end I will have to decide if I feel comfortable using it. For example, if someone makes a wallpaper that is basically the Das Boot DVD cover with some changes, I probably won't use it.

Looking forward to what you have in mind, Letum! :yep:

thanks
Neal

I think you misunderstand me. Let me explain in detail.

Everything I make and release, I release "open source".
I'm gonna make a few wallpapers because I enjoy that kind of thing, but I will only
release them as open source works under creative commons.

That means no one will have "exclusive use of the art."
and everyone will have "full [..] use of the art".

Weather this is acceptable to you, or not, I will finish my wallpapers and post them,
you will be free to use them as you wish, but not exclusively free to use them.

I refuse to do things any other way, since a magazine demanded that I remove
images that I had made from my online portfolio because I had given them all
rights. :shifty:
Eventually they agreed, but the whole affair was not nice.

I know you wouldn't do something like that, but it is a matter of principle for me.

Anyway, that's just to clear, I'll get image making now. ;)

Should we post them here? How many can we enter?

Onkel Neal 01-06-08 06:34 PM

Send as many as you want. If you send more than 10 good ones, you'll get something from the prize chest for sure!:yep:

Screenshots are acceptable if the quality is good and there are no (or few) game interface toolbars showing.

Image must be minimum 1024x786 size; larger is better and best size is around 1650x1250 but do not damage the image clarity to make it larger.

Image must be saved as a bmp or png and in a zip file, sent to
2008 SUBSIM Wallpaper contest

Deadline is March 1, 2008

Send here: subsim@subsim.com and enter 2008 SUBSIM Wallpaper contest in the subject, please.
