Householders face another big council tax rise and service cuts

Average council tax bills are expected to rise by about 4.5 per cent to £1,380 in April, making a total increase of more than 100 per cent since Labour took office, according to the local government chief.

What is the point paying more for less? People of Great Britain you must take on these swine and only pay a certain amount and withhold the rest why? If you sit there and do nothing they will walk all over you year in year out, I am fighting my corner are you?

Because if we do anything with the word "French" in it, we'll need everyone elses help!

Steed, me and my entire family are in your corner. Infact, a few months back, my dad upped and refused to pay the full council tax amount because our binbags were forgotten about 7 times that month. They threatened us with legal action, but my dad just replied in a simple letter:

Dear Sir or Madam,
Just as I would not pay the full price for a car with no wheels, I shall not pay full price for half-assed services.

Yours Sincerely,
Keith Phillips

Havent heard from them since. Guess they figured the cost'd be too high to take a HGV driver to court :rotfl:

I feel you pain man!!! On the 31st December I received notification that my house and property were re-assessed in value basically meaning my property taxes are going up. It is pretty simple....if the state needs money, the property owners turn into a ATM machine. No PIN required to take cash out.

Yes, all taxes in the state of Maryland (US) are going up. Normally it is not to much of a raise in taxes but this year they are going for the juggular. Like you, my increase in pay this year (0 dollars) is not keeping up with it all.

Keep fighting them and stand your ground.

I am waiting of my summands to court for with holding a certain amount which I feel they do not deserve, one reason are streets are supposed to be swept clean every six weeks yea right, like when was the last time two years ago. We must all take on these greedy pigs to swindle us out of our money, I've not had a pay rise in three years go and spin I say.

Sigh .. not the news I really wanted right now :nope:

Well that one can come back and bite you hard in the arse, they wont forget it i can assure you that, our council is in full radio and mobile phone communication with all its crews we are allowed to leave late refuse ie people who put thier bags out after we have been through, and also we are allowed to leave bags that are not outside the property as we are not allowed to enter anyones property period.

Whats more the cost of taking a HGV driver to court is minimal it would all be tax payers money so you would only be paying for yourself to go to court.

Another thing is if you broke down your council tax bill as our manager in our place did he outlined everything we pay, we found that out of the 212,000 properties in our area each property pays just £6.95 for thier refuse service (that doesnt even pay my wage for one hour! im on £9.78 an hour)

So if your dad stopped the payment by £100 he is still liable because your council tax also pays for things like the police service in your area fire ambulence and also and hospitals and NHS trusts.

They may have "forgot" about it but the thing is they do let that happen to ride on the intrest so if he held back £100 in 3 or 4 months time with the intrest rates around 30% he will have a court order put on him to pay that plus the intrest and charges.

Sadly ive seen many people be done over by the same system.

What's to keep them from levying a tax on your liberty, or your life, and calling that "due process"? It sounds like protection money to me.

Let's face it, they hold all the cards. If you want to play out the hand, be prepared to lose it all. Often, when I think of taxes, I think back to the window tax that was institued in Colonial times. You were taxed on the amount of windows in your shack! Now that is grasping!

Remember, tax ain't there to annoy us. ;)

It is there to enhance and protect your life, liberty and property.

Nuclear subs and school books.

If you want lower taxes, then perhaps a bring-your-own looroll system might be the answer.

Or a vending machine that charges you a few pence per square. The poor must do without.
