[req] Radar bug ?
Date: Nov 31 1941
To: all subs engineering officers Pacific fleet From: SS Wahoo 238 Location: South American Coast. Wahoo still working up during transit current location is about 80 nm west of the panamanian coast course set for pearl this morning. Happy new year. in preparing my ship for arrival in Pac Fleet a new bugaboo has turned up. I thought I might radio ahead and see if any of my fellow captains had had this bug before. (likely) after turning up not too much in a forum search I wonder if anyone among you is familiar with this set of circumstances and an appropriate solution. I am currently using Prolonged DC ROW (various) RFB RSRDC in compatable current versions. whats happening is this during testdives we made as we were leaving the cut in Panama, we discovered that as we were cruising our Surface Radar would stay on the ordered constant sweep as long as we either stayed and watched it or if we stayed away from it. but everytime we walked into the radar shack when it was already running a sweep for some unknown reason it would switch to focus and stop turning. so is it some sort of weird static charge from saltwater running over my ferric metal hull, or is it that gravity here near at the equator is strong enough to pull down a weak switch. Wahoo arriving Pearl on or about the morning of Dec, 7 looking forward to seeing you all at the O club. Morton |
