Can we add new 3d interiour rooms

Hi. I have 3 years of experience in 3d modelling. So its not a very hard task for me to model a 3d interior. I would really like to add captains cabin into the sub. A place where you can hang out and write down your logs.

So my question is. Is this even possible. Lets say i model low poly 3d cabin. Is there a way someone could add this into a game and make it so that we could put camera into it.

Thanks.

It's been talked about before, lets give this one a bump. Welcome to SUBSIM

An Addition to our house

I have very limited modeling skills but from what I have seen of the 3D models and from what I do know about modding this games files and others is that it would could more than likely be added to the exsisting model rather than in addition to the model. At least that is what I think, then again... to say I have even basic modeling skills would be a stretch. but I hope this helps a bit.

Oh and BTW I would forever be in debt to you if you did add the room. and others!!

P.S. someone in SH3 had modded/modeled an open hatch add on to the subs, if this was done in a similar way it would be very possible to use the free camera to go the the cabin I use RFB and love that fact that the free camera is the default.

I would say that the room could be added but the need to discover the path to the room via one of the F keys is needed. There must be a way because we already do it in game to get to the rooms we do have available.

The additional room can be added to an existing room (for example to Command Room), but it is long and greater job which will result in deadlock... :dead:

Thank you for the replies. So now i know that it is possible to add a room. The next problem is how to add rooms. When i go into my SH4 directory and open submarines i see all the names and interior files.

Does anyone have a idea how to open these files. Do i need somekind of a plugin witch helps to import the files into 3d app?

Anyone out there who has any idea how to add a room to existing room give me a shout please.

(i have to be honest. Right now i am liking SH3 more than SH4 because all of the extra interior rooms and you can give direct commands to your men. It gives you feeling that you are actually there and part of a team)

Read this thread

I'm not sure if you have seen this thread before but it might be something you'll want to read. It deals with other rooms http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=98663

Try to use Skwasjer's S3D:

Unless you have 3D modeling experience, don't even think about it.

Not possible at present. There's no way to import 3dmodel back into SH4 yet. You'll have to wait for skwasjer forthcoming versions of S3D. As of yet, it allows you to export 3dmodels but not import them back

While you can import models using Pack3D ...

skwasjer 01-04-08 10:33 PM

True, just not with multiple UV's, which is what I aim for in future versions... :) For the time being, the only option for import is Pack3D or hex

kapitan_zur_see 01-05-08 05:18 PM

I think pack3D is not a solution unless something new happened lately while i was not on subsim?!? Importing using pack3D will work but textures will appears full of glitches. If you want to see an example, take a look at my post there: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=126085

skwasjer 01-05-08 07:30 PM

Afaik Pack3D is possible to use, but with limitations (the most important one being the uv maps). Those glitches are possibly because of incorrect setup in dat-file, or some other issues. Pack3D also has problems with multiple materials in some cases (as it does not care about the face material assignment). And not every Pack3D version is good for model work...

In any way, I remember seeing some SH3 to SH4 ports...

And mine 2 cents ...
It's not the theoretical assumption ... It's the fact ...
Till now
modders use Pack3D in all jobs (and for interior too) ... + ... hexeditor or analogue ...
if they have no other special tools ...
