Help SH4 Crashing and rebooting my PC

I've been playing SH3 with no problem. I just got SH4 and installed all the updates to 1.4. Everytime I load a saved game and go to the bridge it runs for a minute freezes then my computer reboots. :damn: Has anyone else had this problem.
My pc
AMD dual core 4600+
ATI x1300
1 gig ram

Thanks

Have you tried to load a previous saved game?

Yes

That sounds like a heat problem.

To verify, Try turning the graphics settings way down

- or -

open the case, point a stadard type hopuse fan directly into the guts

and run the game. If it runs fine like that, it's more than likely your CPU protection kicking in and shutting the machine down when it hits the threshold temp.

You might also want to grab a copy of SpeedFan and monitor your temps directly.

Another thing is, if you are running XP, go to DXDIAG and turmn Sound accelleration all the way down.

Bit of a hang-over from SH3.

I will check that. However, I also run oblivion for hours with no problem.

Just as a point of comparison, I have been playing Bioshock at 1920x1200 with all the DX10 bells and whistles cranked up to maximum, and my GPU temps never went above 65c while my CPU temps stayed below 38c.

Running SH4 w/ ROW at a lower resolution - 1680 x 1050 - my GPU is running at ~72c and my CPU is pushing 40c.

Apparently SH4 requires a lot more horsepower to run that you might guess.

I am running XP. I will try turing down the sound accelaration. On of the voices doesn't sound right.

Thanks

Crack the case and get yerself a small ossolating fan and blow it in the case to keep things cool and see what happens. I usually keep the sides off my boxes just to keep em cool.

OK, it's not the heat. I used speedfan and my cpu runs hotter with SH3.:rotfl: I updated the drivers to 7.12. Oblivion and SH3 and SH4 run better. But SH4 still crashes :damn: . However, it doesn't reboot anymore it just crashes. I'm guessing I need more memory. So I'm gonna go to 3 gigs. I'll let you folks know.
