My first patrol with Manual Targeting

Hi, I have just finished my first patrol, hasn't been easy, I sunk 3 ships, and badly damaged another, I have discovered that with the mod "Natural Sinking Mechanics", deck guns are useless for trying to sink a merchant that hasn't been torpedoed, I placed around 180 shots into it & a good 50% below water line, that's when I run out of ammo & it escaped!:yep: I probably wasted around 3 torpedoes due to learning manual targeting but persistance paid off. All In all though an enjoyable patrol, a quick summary:
I was stationed at Manila & sent to patrol the Philippines, my Very first kill:

Next, was at night, and the final kill only 50 miles from Manila:

Docked & received a medal ... Aw shucks, was just doing my duty! (I love to ham it up!):

Thanks to all concerned for your help & guidance. (and patience!;))

Thanks guys, it's taken awhile but I'm getting the hang of it, I noticed that if I get too close (within 400yards) it is almost impossable to get a firing solution, I was doing my nana wondering why all my changes to the Attack Data Tool just would not give me a solution shown on the attack map, but as soon as I got some distance everything started to work ok! In SH3 this is totally different as you can change the gyro angle etc and see the results on the attack map, very easy!:yep: But I'm getting used to this and it definitely has some advantages. I did find that the stock campaign files shipping was a little rare for my taste, so I increased all traffic by around 10%, I haven't posted this as a mod as I'm not sure that it's worthy of it, however it is up at my FF page if anyone reading this is interesed.:)

Congrats Reece! In my next campaign I'll go for Manual Targeting as well. I'm on my 23rd Patrol in my current career and my tonnage is well in the six-digit figures! :p

Manually targeting and destroying targets is the most satisfying thing you can do with this sim. :)

Congrats Reece!

Congrats Reece!

Yes, but it has a downside as well: You are going to pull your hair out when you have a perfect firing solution, the torpedos run hot, straight and normal and then they are duds, prematures, deep runner or circle runners.:shifty::x:damn::dead:

Reece 12-22-07 05:17 AM

Yeh I can see how that would upset you a little!:lol:
