Holy smokes! I knew it was going to be bad, but i had no idea. Now, personnaly, i don't change OS's until game boxes start saying "REQUIRED" on the new OS, and doesn't mention the previous OS at all. Several obvious reasons..
1.) New OS is going be really F'ing expensive 2.) New OS is going to be really F'ing buggy 3.) Lots of patchs to D/L 4.) Lack luster initial driver support 5.) Compatiblity issues with existing programs. 6.) Every tom, dick, and harry hacker, wannabe, and script kiddie alike will have their sights set on the new OS. From that mindset, i had no intention of getting Vista, anytime soon. I hear people ragging on it, but since ive never acutally spent any time with the OS, i really don't know. Im just a crumedgeon set in his ways (IE, above listed train of thought). So when various sources keep saying its bad, i keep patting myself on the back for staying AWAY from vista. As i type t his, its on a new PC that came with WinXp Home (too cheap to upgrade to pro, and i dont get much bennfit from it anyway). |

I was part of our company team.... AND I'M PROUD THAT WE DIDN't BURN OUR COMPANY'S MONEY! No vista, XP has still to pay back.... |
@Ducimus
With your modding skills you could un-bloat Vista and have your own modded version :D Tip: When installing Vista use this program - you can get rid of what you dont need or probably never ever use during installation. This proggy will make Vista more stable and faster on mid range PC's VLite http://www.vlite.net/about.html |
Now that was. :-j

I just build my new system and it is vista free.

Just found this on a web log:

I worked as a department manager at Staples when Vista came out. We had this HUGE promotion with banners, posters. Each of us was trained and schooled in how to sell Windows Vista (and there was even a quiz at the end). Microsoft even sent some of "their guys" out to the stores to demo it for the flood of customers that were expected to be purchasing it on the day of release. We had literally hundreds of boxes stacked and ready for the sale with Mr. Micro$oft guy there with his demo computer all ready to go. It was pretty much a huge Micro$oft sponsored release party that pretty much rivaled a movie release. Well.. that day came.... and as I had rightly predicted... no one came in to buy it. I think we may have sold 4 copies that day. Not only that, but we discovered that there were major driver and hardware incompattabilities between Vista and about 90% of the new laptops that we put out with Vista pre-installed. A couple of the HP laptops (Which are among the most solid and relable laptops we sold) wouldn't even boot right out of the box and it wasn't due to hardware. It was Vista not being compatable with the laptop's hardware.:nope: We had problems with Vista and pretty much every laptop that we put out on display regardless of brand. All these laptops that had Vista pre-installed on them were coming right out of the box not able to use their DVD writers, or speakers, or would crash when you tried to do pretty much anything. It wasn't that the drives or speakers or whatever were broken... it was the fact that Vista didn't have the proper drivers to work the damn things !!! Then, eventually, the people who had been suckered into buying Vista were coming back complaining that half the hardware on their computers weren't working anymore. I installed Vista on several computers for customers and it made several of their systems go belly up even after I had checked, and double checked the computer's compatability (We actually have a program provided by Micro$oft that we use that checks all devices, drivers, and software and will tell you what in the system is compattable with Vista and what isn't.... this program was a box of all out LIES !!!) Anyway... the Vista launch was a complete financial disaster.:nope: Vista just INSN'T worth the upgrade at all. I foresee us looking back at Vista in the future like we look back at Windows ME now. |
I skipped straight from Windows 95 to XP, running MCE right now and I think I'll stay there :)

What I love is how, after years and years of people bashing XP, suddenly it is now so wonderful? What about all the years and endless reviews going over and over and over about the problems and fundamental flaws of Windows XP? Has everyone suddenly forgotten all that?
Seriously, regardless of what you think about Vista, XP is no great operating system either. It's riddled with bloat, registry-rot, security gaps that make a 00-buckshot shotgun blast at close quarters look like a minor flesh wound, ... I suffer with MS-Windows so I can play my games, but that is the sole purpose for which I will put up with it. |
