Time compression editing
Hola,
Prior to installing GWX 2.0, I had edited one of my config files so that I could use 2048x time compression. It was a simple matter of editing a value that made those long hauls to the east coast much more bearable. I haven't been able to find this file since the upgrade. Does anybody know which file I'm talking about? I was also able to bump the time compression for land proximity up (makes getting out of Lorient much less frustrating). Thanks in advance. -Yak |
Be aware that use of TC over x512 significantly reduces your chances of spotting aircraft.
You will only encounter half the aircraft you would normaly see and when you doo see them, they will be spotted much closer to your boat. TC over x1024 not lony messes up aircraft, but you will also miss fast ships. Especialy at night or in fog. This will all happen even if you srill have a frame rate above 80. |
Yeah, I'm aware of those facts. As much as I hate missing contacts, my attention span of a drunk goldfish overrules my desire to spot contacts. I enjoyed the upped TC when heading west to the States or to South America. I never had a problem getting jumped by aircraft in the middle of the Atlantic and I don't think I was ever spotted by a destroyer. My experience has been that the pickings are so slim in mid-ocean that you aren't missing much by TCing at warp 9. Then again, I haven't made it past 1943 yet (also due to the forementioned attention span and the upgrading to GWX).
Attention span aside, I'd like to think that I'm not too dense as a skipper and I rarely use high TC when in any situation where I might get company. A valid point to bring up though. |
WildYak-
Just out of curiosty, what value did you use for land proximity (I think that's the name for it) because I tend to do this :damn: when I use the Kiel Canal; I'd like to find a way to speed things up a bit in there. Thanks. Samofire |
howdy,
I've been using 2.0 for a few days now and it lets me use 128x in the canal usually. No sense in speeding it up because you meet friendly shipping regularly and it bumps you back down to 8x. When I was using my edited time compression in GWX 1.3, I had set land proximity to let me use 64x. I chose this simply for the fatigue model. I'm rarely close to land and if I can chug by at 64x it won't take too long and my crew won't wuss out on me. I still don't know where exactly the file is to edit, but I do remember that when I did edit it, it was exceedingly simple. I changed two lines of text from 8 to 64 and from 1024 to 2048 respectively and kablamo...no more headaches. Good luck, but with GWX 2.0 I haven't had any trouble using 128x TC in the Kiel canal with no editing. Good luck. |
Thank you much, I'll start tinkering with it...

the sh3 commander lets you edit those values. why dont you give it a try?
|
WildYak--I believe the file you are looking for is in Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII/data/cfg. The file name is main.cfg. Open with a text editor and away you go. Or, you could use SH3Commander as suggested above.
Cheers! |

Much thanks friends,
I have found the values and have successfully tinkered. I appreciate the help. Cheers. -Yak |
I took the other route, and installed GWX2...and promptly had my @%$ handed to me by a little ASW Trawler; the time compression worked great, though.
