Black artifacts in the sky
Hi,
when being on the bridge, I see black artifacts in the sky, like flashes, as the boat is rolling in the sea. This is on a 8800GTS with 620 MB RAM (163.75) Any suggestions how to get rid of it? TIA Z. |

So to awnser your question, no. |
I was right!!
The aliens ARE coming......:o |
I used to think that it was the computer rendering the ships, or aircraft, at ~30km away. But after following one, it just turned out to be nothing. The Greys must have initiated their cloaking device.
|
Lets hope this "Cloaking Device" as it's called doesn't fall into Allied hands...at least until we finish building our super secret undreground drilling machine ,that Adolph Hitler will drive himself under the Earth's crust directly into the Untited States ! Boy will the US be surprised once "Operation Subway" gets underway !!!
Then of course.. we'll have to deal with their pesky American superheroes but hey.. one thing at a time ! :rotfl: http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/1...nycomicql5.jpg |
I have just started getting this as well. New computer with 8800GT, fresh install of SH3 and GWX2. Using 16km, 3d waves. Noticeable flashed black boxes when the weather is good :sunny:, but not when it rains...
On my old PC with 9800XT and GWX1.3 at 8km I did not see this. Need to experiment more as I'm new (again) to Nvidia. |
Sounds similiar to the "forgot to roll back SHCommander and activate the GWX16k atmos mod" problem
:yep: But ya not to specific on what mods ya running :hmm: |
Hi,
I have this little problem too. This is a problem with the 8800 series and the drivers. I can't get rid of it. I learned to live with  In my older rig, with ATI card, no such problems. |
Thanks Badger but this was a fresh install of everything on a new PC so it was the first time running the 16k mod. Have since rolled back and re-run anyway for another mod (antennas lowered) and the problem persists.
Just as for Marko_Ramius, my old ATI rig never had the problem. To my mind it's either the new 8800GT, its drivers or possibly the 16km mod. As not everyone using the 16km mod has the problem I'm thinking it's either the card or more likely its drivers. Or perhaps the way I've got it set up as it's a bit different to the Catalyst Control Center I'm used to ;). I too could live with it if need be as otherwise the card is very, very good! As for GWX 2.0 I had my first contacts last night. Chased down two merchants off Portugal only to find they had their Christmas lights on - Irish neutrals! |
Same problem here:cry: . With out 16km it works fine:yep: except in the sun were I can still see it.

I used to have this when playing on my laptop, it was a problem with the radeon 9200 series (and now i guess the 8800s too), where polys would dissapear from the sky dome leaving a black triangle.
Try DLing the shIV scene.dat mod as it fixed the problem for me (its in the forum somewhere) here... http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=117628 |
Just upgraded my vid card to 8800GT and I start getting the artifacts too. It's related to the 16km mod for GWX 2.0, as in stock (8km) GWX2.0 I don't have them.
By replacing files individually, I traced the problem to one of the files in the Env folder, more precisely the Sky.... (something) file - can't remember the precise name, I'm @work now. With the 8 Km (stock GWX2.0) file there's no problem, as soon as I put the 16 Km file the artefacts appear. If this observation can help anyone in fixing it, here it is: After vid card upgrade, I have the artifacts also in my GWX 1.03 install. I didn't have them until the upgrade (Nvidia 7900GS), so the changes in this file (the Sky... thing) are not 100% to the taste of newer video cards. |
I am having this problem WITHOUT the 16k mod. Little flashes or flickering black objects when looking at the horizon. Does not seem to happen when it is raining.
Also get black flickering marks on the surface of the moon. It only happens intermittantly. Sometimes the moon appears perfectly normal. I am playing on a laptop. Radeon X1400 |
