[Help Frigate] How does the "slave to tag" option work ?

Ok guys, I've started to tackle the frigate sonar and everything is going well expect for a little thing that is not clear to me. And the manual doesn't explain in a clear way the issue as well. The problem is the option "slave to tag" that you find in the sonar station F6.
I understand that every contact is assigned a tag number, and the different frequencies corrisponding to the said contact are visibile in the lofar.
Now lets suppose I have a freighter that has been assigned a tag number of 6 and its frequencies are visibile on beam 10 of the passive sonar for example.
As I manouver the ship, or as the freighter manouvers the beam that detects the freighter changes. So for instance after a turn I will detect the freighter on beam number 15.
What does the slave to tag do ? I don't understand, whether I activate the option "slave to tag" or not I'm not seeing anything different.
Anyone well versed in the frigate care to explain to me what I'm not seeing with the "slave to tag" thing. :hmm:

You've got it all quite right.

So you have the freighter on beam 10. You look at 1 beam display, beam 10. Now you turn. With no 'slave to tag' the freighter will move to beam 11 and you will not see it anymore. With 'slave to tag' the display will switch to tag 11 so you can keep an eye on the 'slaved' tag even when turning.

Ah so with "slave to tag" I basically don't have to chase the contact on the different beams. I focus on one beam (that has detected the contact), enable slave to tag and it automatically update which beam is currentluy detecting it.
All so without me having to go back to the lofar screen.

Thanks for your explanation Dr Sid.
Sometimes the manual is just too cryptic on certain things. :rotfl:
