can't install GWX 2 - down in the dumps

Hello folks.

I uninstalled SH3 and then re-installed it - worked fine.

I put patch 1.4b on - worked fine

I click on the GWX2.exe (845 KB - zat right?) and it wants the source of the .bins, which are all in a folder on the desktop, but as soon as it starts the data transfer it tells me a file is corrupt ( something to do with Stukas?).

After that, even if I shut right down and start again from cold, the game CTD's and gives simdata.dll as the faulting module in Events - 'Faulting application sh3.exe, version 1.4.0.1, faulting module simdata.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00005df9.'

Then I have to uninstall the whole thing and start over. I have done that three times now. I am about to download a fresh batch of GWX.2 in the hope that will fix it - if not I do not know what else to do.... any ideas please??

Uninstall Silent Hunter III

Within program Files Locate your Ubisoft Folder, open it and delete the folder Silent Hunter III (if it still remains there)

Go to your "My Documents" folder and delete the foldere entitled "SH3"

Reinstall SH3, patch it to 1.4b, do not test run the game

create a folder on your desktop entitled "GWX2.0"

place all 7 .bin files AND the GWX2.exe file into the folder you just created on your desk top that you have named "GWX2.0"

run the GWX2.exe file, when prompted, make sure the path to silent hunter 3 is correct.

i believe that should do it.

Hi GR. I will do it a fourth time, with the same .bins ( I have already downloaded a fresh copy of the.exe) and this time I will not test the game, and I will come back to say how I got on

GoldenRivet 12-10-07 03:51 PM

good luck, im sure your files are fine, there is probably a step in the removal of SH3 that is missing somewhere

To be sure your files aren't corrupted do the following:
First DL md5 mate:

http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/sof...md5m_setup.exe

Then copy the following text and save it as GWX2.md5 in the same dir you have the exe/bin files
D1FF0D6BFD651E869E323D393B1D5B1E *GWX2.EXE
7B14767E3FD8DD9866D902D6CB4B69FE *GWX2-1.BIN
2718CAD3259B5A43DF03AA88DEAB402B *GWX2-2.BIN
AB9AF05BD89263A018F383EDA589DE90 *GWX2-3.BIN
0FFDB16F197E159E61651DB5D805529A *GWX2-4.BIN
753D95679C46DF2C54AF7E93B0CCB6EB *GWX2-5.BIN
AB5D09575688802B08156CE1C24C6C88 *GWX2-6.BIN
5BF3E05A81D0E4E09F331090FD3C4C7B *GWX2-7.BIN
Open MD5 mate and select compare from md5 file, select the file you've just created, after a while the program tells you if the files are correct, this way you avoid DL unneeded files.
You should have something like this :

Hi, back again. Same result. it returns a 'corrupted file' for each one you try to install.

Thanks Ref, will try that :)

see you later

GoldenRivet 12-10-07 04:11 PM

also . . . are you using vista or XP? because there are a couple of extra steps for vista

She-Wolf 12-10-07 04:25 PM

Hi GR, I am using XPSP2 :)

Ref, they ALL failed

yet, when I tried it for single file, the exe. passed......

I am going to download the lot again ( ppssshawww). Can I go direct to the server do we know, or must I click on the link in the e-mail again??

Try inserting the SH3 disc and performing an 'Uninstall' operation before you try again :arrgh!:

OK, done that. it uninstalled ok, though it ended with the comment that 'maintenance is finished', but I checked the folder before deleting it and all the main files were gone...

lurve the cool wolfie graphics Jimbuna!

She-Wolf 12-10-07 05:53 PM

well, I am downloading all the GWX files again. Slow because my ISP cripples the bandwidth in the evening if a user downloads too much, and I have already downloaded this lot today - but I have checked the md5 on the .exe and the first .bin and they ok ( thanks Ref for that advice, really useful), so i am hopeful it will be ok next time I go through the procedure. Won't be playing any games tonight though...

Jimbuna 12-10-07 06:36 PM

Good luck

I have downloaded GWX2.0 again, saved it to a stick, and done the checksum thing with each file and each one matched. However, when I did the multiple file check, it failed all eight again. I downloaded another utility and that found each one matched, but it doesn't have the option to do the whole batch in one go.

Something I would like to check before I go any further ( if anyone is still around to read this now mind). The patch I got from SubSim, as before, is labelled as 1.4b, but on its splash screen it says it is a 1.00 to 1.3.update. I would be pleased if someone could confirm this IS the right patch, though I think it must be ok as I used it with the previous GWX package.

KeptinCranky 12-10-07 07:36 PM

the patch is ok, I've used it myself.

as to the MD5 thing, I've tested the files individually after our own download test and when they all checked out the install went without a hitch

the problem with the multiple check might be errant spaces or enters in there.

since the files all checked out individually I suggest you give installing a try

GoldenRivet 12-10-07 07:37 PM

its the right one... thats what the 1.4b patch says for some odd reason
