fuel depot?
hello bootmates, there is a cloud on my horizon in that I have been told to go to D61 ( I think), which is somewhere around Madagascar - is that right? - and I am based at Wilhelmshaven ( or Vilhelmshaben as 'im in the next chair insists). Thing is, I am still in the English Channel, not long passed Cherbourg, and already my fuel is down to half. My strategy is to surface at night to recharge and run lickety split until first light on the surface as I surely dare not poke my snout up in the day. Perhaps I have used up too much fuel because I have been going flat out, dunno - but I can't see how I am going to have enough juice left for the return journey, so I wondered.... is there anywhere I can tank up??

using GWX... any friendly port can refit you, also i believe there is a friendly tanker which will supply you with fuel in the vicinity of Madagascar.
the problem is "running flat out" is quickly running you flat out of fuel. depending on the type of boat you are using i wouldnt recommend anything above about 7 knots |
What's your boot type? What year and month are you in? Are you using GWX?
You can find supply ships in Cadiz and Canaries if you are playing GWX. Depends on the date. Supply ships are shown with their name in blue on the chart. |

ahh, hello chaps :) yerse, I guessed my flatoutness was to blame, but even so, its an awful long trip, I have only been sent to cover AN areas before. Thankyou for the help. I AM playing GWX, and my sub is a IIA. I only have about 4000 renown, and used some of that on a different engine I think. Time...erm about June 1940..?
|
what is your grid assignment?!
what higher up maniac orders a type IIA to a patrol grid off Madagascar? (breaking out my charts now) if i were you i might go renegade on this mission and complete a short patrol seeking out high tonnage |
Would it be DN61? Just off Madagascar...
|
hmmm, if I don't complete the mission orders, will I be punished or lose renown? I have always obediently done my 24 hour patrol in the designated grid up to now..
|
If that's the case you WANT the bug that makes your boat end up where the Greenwich line crosses the Equator...:rotfl:
And even then you'll never make it.... A IIa boat has just enough to get home, perhaps the grid is CD61? that should be doable, but still not for a canoe, in that case, refuel in the canaries, vigo or cadiz, or if France has already fallen, Lorient or st. Nazaire  |
the DN grids would be off the coastal waters of Cuba... check your standing orders to verify the grid reference numbers
are you sure it wasne AN61? |
Umm, you'll not lose renown, just gain a little less something like 100 or so, sink a slightly bigger ship to compensate
|
hang on, I will go back in and check...
DH 61 and it isn't Madagascar, it is Madeira ( I knew it began with L) Still a long way for little me.... |
switched flotilla?
It sounds like you just switched flotillas? :hmm:
The engine can not cope with that fact in the right way. It expects someone to in the flotilla with the right boat for the tasks the flotilla gets. So I assume you are in 2nd flotilla? Either you get yourself a type IX boat or you get yourself SH3commander, roll back your current patrol and before you start the next one you have SH3commander create you a patrol within range of your type II boat. Type II is only useful for the northsea or the immediate area surrounding the british islands :( |
U49 is likely correct,
The DN grids are well suited to the range of capability of an IX type boat. the problem he described may be the issue you are experiencing. |
Silly idea, while reading too much GWX2.0 manual..

Or you start to get yourself into the modding business and create your own secret fuel stops on the atlantic, near the bermudas and so on ... But this is far away from realism. Type II does not belong to the atlantic .... Sorry, I was just feeling the urge to make a joke.... , that wasn't fair because it doesn't help you with your problem.. Better take that advice from a few posts up... :yep: |
