ArmA additional free campaigns!!!
Figured I'd have to share these:
This one looks like the best: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=2167 This one looks shorter, but also ranks extremely high: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=1592 And when you're done with those, how about a random campaign mission generator?: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=1875 This is the must mod for ArmA - Don't leave home without it!: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=896 -S PS. Queen's Gambit is out. Ranks about a 7 on 10, so it may be a bargain bin addition for me. |
Nice, I gotta say though, I can't wait for Armed Assault 2(Previously OFP2), I mean comeon, it will have 4(or was it 5?) campaign modes!
Linear campaign ala OFP1 Semi-linear campaign ala ArmA Totally dynamic campaign(Pick side, role, fight, win or lose) Online co-op persistent campaign servers! I can't wait, I just hope they improve the AI, it gets annoying being headshotted by an AK constantly from a 200 meters range.:) |

GLORIA is entertaining. Takes the Guba approach from an American perspective. A rogue American general has some gun / drug smuggling going on. I wonder if he has a nuke like Guba did too? -S |

But we shall see, maybe OFP2 won't turn out total crap, maybe Codemasters will actually make a decent game themselves :D I won't keep my hopes up though, when it comes to realistic military sims Bohemia have more experience, especially if you take into consideration the VBS series. |

I doubt it will come out 2008, I believe it'll be delayed.
And I disagree with them making titles for the military holding the company down, it's another part of the company doing that, BIS Australia, isn't it? Besides, I know quite a few devs whom do government contract games too, but their commercial games still turn out great, an example being PoA2(Point Of Attack 2) from HPS Simulations, but its a bit different I guess, the game was done on behalf of the US Department Of Defense and such, and then they got a license to release the program commercially, but they had to remove some features, such as the ability to add in ammotypes etc. |
But my point being is that they will never do a über realistic simulation for the gamers, because then the military would buy the 50€ game instead of the ~$2000 VBS. ;)
|
It's not about money, its about the fact that it's a game, and far more effort goes into making VBS1 than goes into OFP/ArmA series, because the OFP/ArmA series are still intended as ENTERTAINMENT; whereas the VBS games are designed from ground up specifically for military training, for example, afaik VBS1 didn't ship with any premade campaigns full of voiceovers etc.:)

I never thought I am going to say this, but I hope for Operation Flashpoint 2 by Codemasters. |
@Gargantou:
It's not just the gameplay, but there's quite a few graphical improvements and details that arent in OFP nor ArmA. Things like better tracers, openable hatches and moving parts on pretty much every vehicle etc. |

But anyway, all we can do is wait and see, for me, OFP2 won't do crap unless it contains a fully dynamic campaign, I've been fed up with linear campaigns in 'sims' these days, and spoiled by the fully dynamic campaign featured in Falcon 4 Allied Force!
