[REL] New Kilo Scope reticle

I never liked the scope reticles in DW, so I modified the Kilo one using a real soviet submarine scope picture as a guide. I like the result, and it adds to the inmersion in the game :) , so I decided to share it.

That looks like something I could get used to... And those tick marks might come in handy for figuring out whether certain objects (cough, P-3, cough) are within a certain range (cough, 2.5nm, cough). :hmm:

Rep inbound!
(doh, no rep button...)

Good Job! Just curious, but will this also work with the Akulas?

The graphic for the Akula periscope is different, but I suppose you could copy and paste the reticle in that one. I'm not sure how the real reticle on an Akula looks like, this one for the Kilo I did based on a Foxtrot one. The pictures I have seen from Kilo scopes looks close enough externally, and the lack of night vision camera and sofistication leads me to think they will be very similar. But I suppose the Akula will be different. Anyway, if you want me to modify the Akula one, just ask. It's a 5 minutes job :up:

Fantastic. I've always wanted a more realistic redical on the scopes but never got around to making one.

I might have to remake my bow wake images in my Kilo guide using this redical.

I got the grey rectangle when I install this mod but it was present in the stock version too but this mod have it only on two sides yes the other two side lines have dissappeared. Anyway to make the last two grey lines to dissapear aswell. Quite annoying to look at these lines. Thx for the mod

Which grey rectangle/lines?? :-? can you post a screenshot? May be it's a matter of your graphics card :hmm: as I don't have anything like that :88)

(Cough) I'm preparing a reticle for the binoculars with instant rangefinder for objects or certain sizes (cough, planes and helos, cough) :ping:

Thank you Hitman. :up: This is great. Are you going to do the same for the other subs as well?

Hitman I'll try to get you some screenshots but right now I need to go back to my sleep I't still 3am here:)

Cheers guys:up:

One thing I forgot to mention, for those of you with a taste for trigonometry: The reticle is meant for 2x zoom as main use. On that zoom, each big mark (10,20,30,40,50) is exactly (As exact as I could make it, anyway) one degree, and each small one 0.2 degree. Therefore, you must make the proper correction if using another zoom, so that each big mark is respectively:

1x = 2 degrees
2x = 1 degree
4x = 0.5 degree
8x = 0.25 degree
16x = 0.125 degree

The formula to obtain range is: Range = Mast/ Sin of observed degrees

One interesting property of the reticle is that at 1 zoom any object that covers up to the 30 mark in heigth or width (6 degree vertical or horizontal) will be exactly 10 times its size in distance.

For example: A ship with a 25 metres mast that aligns with the 30 mark in the vertical reticle is 250 metres away.

Another example: A 150 metres long ship at 90º AOB that covers up to the 30 mark horizontally is 1500 metres away. :D
Unfortunately, the in-game ship data seem to be way off :down: and for example, the cargo ship has a mast of 45 metres, while a careful measuring shows 30 metres instead. That makes the stadimeter VERY unreliable and in need of correction :x

Oh, and I forgot to show you these pictures, so you can judge the accurancy for yourselves :) :

A real Kilo scope:

A close up of a russian diesel electric submarine scope. Not the one of a Kilo, but very close (Compare with the above):

And finally, the shot I used as a guide:

That's all for now :up:
