Destroyerfest 1940
So, how many escorts have you had bothering you at one time?
My record stands at five, four destroyers and an armed trawler. They held me down from 18:00 to 01:13 the next day, first one Destroyer got lucky and got a whiff of me as I was leaving a convoy I'd just run into, the D/C run did a fair bit of damage, so I was left bailing out, which gave him a better fix on me. He then, of course, called in all his friends, two of them, who came in to join the party, then, as it grew dark, another destroyer showed up just as the first destroyer ran out of depth charges. No rest for me then.....aaand then just as the second destroyer runs out of D/Cs, my old nemesis the Armed Trawler shows up...but thankfully this one didn't have ASDIC (although at least two of the other destroyers did and they REALLY made up for the Armed Trawler) and so his runs mostly went wide. I'm running on about 78% realism, have done from the start, so I watched the Destroyers playing around on the surface...it was quite amusing to watch four Destroyers try very hard to be in the same place at the same time. Lots of stopping, reversing, getting stuck over depth charges as they went off (although the D/Cs were deep enough to prevent damage to the ship  ) They kept me down well though, and shook me up a little bit, Boy was I glad to get up to fresh air when they left, heck, I didn't think they ever WERE going to leave, because even though they'd run out of D/Cs, they were still pinging away, and since two were pinging and two were listening whilst the fifth D/C'd, there was just no getting away from it except to go deep, go quiet and break to port or starboard whenever one came overhead. According to the workers at Wilhelmshaven, my hull integrity was at 56% when I finally returned to base, with 48Ks worth of tonnage under my belt. Uncle Karl must have been pleased, he gave me a Ritterkreuz. Alfons 'Eskorte' Elric - U35 - Total Tonnage in May 1940 = 149004 http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/3...eabreakvh8.jpg |
6 so far, but no screenshot.
It was in late '41.... I will from now on check ... GWX 2.0 in sight  http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...ropganda68.jpg ----- Hi Tarjak: I'm borrowing your great artwork. I hope it is in your idea? |
Personally it was either 5 or 6. It happened after I tried to sneak into Gibraltar. I remebmer that their searchlights were everywhere. I got away ok.

7 :o
i was trying not to scream too loud to keep from waking up my parents.... the dialogue was somewhere along the lines of "jesus h ****ing christ! i only sank a bloody tanker! go somewhere else! or... holy...." "wasserbomben" "you sumb****" it was early 1940 and idk what i got into, found a thermal layer i think and thank heavens i had enough batteries to stay under until they all left me alone.... little pet peeve of min that those damned armed trawlers curcle you after detecting you.... i wanted to surface to make him shut up |
I know the feeling. I especially hate the little PT boats run in the rivers and bays. Though for some reason, one of the boats blew up and had to run ashore...I do not know what the deal was with that.

this says enuf
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b..._22850_712.jpg failed convoy attack, got HEAVY damage from 11 escorts... guess who won |
I guess YOU won? :D
Take a look at the screenie...four of them run into each other and the other circle in for the same procedure. :rotfl: My record so far is 6 or 7. They bombed me from seabed to the moon in shallow waters during a mine laying operation near Harwich. |

:o :o :o :o
Mein Gott, you really upset those guys didn't you? I thought five was bad, but ELEVEN?!! Sheesh, they must have pretty much left the convoy undefended! Pity there's no wolfpacks in SH3... |
Hey Mohr are you playing after the war ended?:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
After the war there wiere some U0boats that did not get the message and it looks like your 1 of them. m record s 6 becuase i was attacking a convoy too and i though their was one becuase I saw the leader but the other five came as soon as a large merchy went down. |
how i got the 11 ?
somwhere 1943 (i think, can be 1942 to) i was crusing arround like usual near brittan the nutcase i am found a large convoy and just ignored the warship activity of it becouse "it were only 4".... i still regret this... so i went over to attack and sank 2 merchie's before actualy realising i was already getting pinged by 6 escorts (and that was a hell on pinging) then i tryed to escape... 2 more joined.. then there were warships comming from brittan and thats where the story ends... also they killed one of themselves my kills: Large merchant Medium tanker bernard RN's kills: V&W U-124 and no nicl, if i get orders to stop, i follow those |

Mohr!
holy cow. I have only seen such an escort reaction ONCE in 1943. they ran me down to 290 meters, with very defined hull crackling sounds and a fine salt spray into the face of my chief engineer. they were probably angry over the sinking of the large rodney BB and the heavy cruiser I still cant believe we gave them the slip. it was the end of my boat for sure but somehow we escaped! there was only two ways out of that mess... we were either going to implode or we were going to slip away silently into the night. i have never heard so many pings in my life. it was an experience that helped me realize how truly frightening it must have been in real life. and your picture brought back that memory i was trying to get rid of. |
I concur. I think that they would have most definitely run into one another...it looks like total chaos there!
|
The most I've ever had is four. It was my first career and I had no idea what the maximum depth on a Type VIIB was; so I only took her down to 150 meters... They were on me for over 6 hours:o I got lucky and only took 2 minor hits. This was only 1940, so I have great respect for all of you who have been trailed by 6 or more destroyers post-1940.
