Windows XP SP3 and Vista's new Service Pack 1 benchmark tests

Vista w/ SP1 still slow - latest benchmarks put XP w/ SP3 at 2x the performance.

I already knew this, but figured SP1 for Vista would be an improvement, but I guess I can keep waiting. My desktop is going to be sluggish for the wait for SP2! Ugghh! I should have never upgraded this machine!

"Children behave, or I'll install Vista on your game PC!"

"Buhahaaaa, noooooo.... buaahahahaha... no Vista, Mum, pleeeeeease!"

I thought MS was giving up on Vista.

But Chock said you can set FSX's Auto-gen scenery to max on Vista while it's very difficult to do the same on XP.

My copy of XP never tasted so good. :smug:

I am detecting MS trickery on this one to sell Vista - similar to what they did to Crysis, until people learned to hack it.

This post made me search for XP SP3 and I found this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lif...vicepacks.mspx

There I could read this:
SP3 for Windows XP Home Edition is currently planned for 1H CY2008. This date is preliminary.

"1H CY2008" <- what does this mean?

antikristuseke 11-27-07 04:27 PM

That means fist half of (cy im guessing means church year, not to sure about that) 2008

Carotio 11-27-07 04:30 PM

Okay, thanks!

Just wasn't sure...
Isn't the normal way to write it is AD instead of CY ?
AD = Anno Domino (Year of the Lord)

I would have thought that 'CY' meant 'Calendar Year', much like 'FY' means 'Financial Year' or 'MY', when referring to vehicles, means 'Model Year'.

I wouldn't be surprised if SP3 for XP breaks something on XP which would force a user to consider buying Shista. I will wait it out a bit and see what I hear from SP3 users.

A mate in the industry tells me that XP will only be available for a few more months before sales and support are both canned. Last chance to grab a new XP rig, although I'm sure there will be an XP black market.

With Vista already in the recycle bin, I wonder what M$ have up their sleeves.:hmm:

Thats not true. They said the same thing about Windows 2000, yet you can still buy and get support for that.

Apparently it doesn't. It seems to be mostly be made of all the 200 patches that you would have to DL if installing SP2. As far as adding anything, I did hear a rumor or two, but nothing substantial. Try and install an SP2 sys these days and you will see what I am talking about. SP3 is just going to roll all those headaces up into one simple headache for you.
