Sounds like the parallel tensions going on in Britain at the same time amplified. Yanks..over sexed, over paid and over here.

Hehe I heard about this. It was basically started because of a pompous US MP giving a yank sailor a hard time and then his Aussie mates had a go at the MP.

Then things went out of control apparently. :arrgh!:

I have a book on it in my collection somewhere. It shows the events leading up to the night, the night its self and the aftermarth. There were some references in a book on US sub operations out of Brisbane, but the saliors had little to do with what happened.

Just practicing their unarmed combat skills, that's all ;)

I'd never heard about it actually :hmm:

Did anyone point out Japan was the bad guy?

Never mind.

On a side note, I have a work friend, and he told me all about his "exploits" in port while in Australia.

American WW2 submariners loved being stationed in Australia because of the women. They hated basing out of Midway because it had none.

They just loved Australia for the women, the night life, the food and the fact that they weren't stuck on some small coral atoll with a thousand other men and only warm beer to drink.

:rotfl:

Vegemite is disgusting. Got it sneaked onto my sandwich before I left Oz so the people I stayed with could say I had some.

Jimbuna 11-27-07 07:24 AM

Vegemite.....or kangaroo sh*t as it is known by some

Rightly so as well! Might write to the queen and ask her to push for a similar ban!

bookworm_020 11-27-07 05:21 PM

There would be riots from all the expats demanding access to the spread. I believe when they banned it from the U.S. there was a massive black market that sprang up overnight!

Just don't ban the Tim Tams!:x
