Crew Management Database: Request for Input
 
I decided, based on this thread:

to create a small crew management database. I have Access 97, I figure a lot of people have some version of Access, so I'm going to do it in that (I'll be able to provide later versions, because I have Office 2003 at work, but my creation will be in 97). I have a rough data model to start with, but I want your input, so it can be useful to more than just me.

The idea is to track crewmen through your career. Each patrol will have a crew made up of men. Each man can accumulate rewards, has a rank, can get promotions, has a skill, a specialization, is on a watch, is at a station. The trick is to be able to view each man's career, too. So there are a lot of things that have dates.

Also it should be able to automate crew rotations, so you don't end up with a ship full of officers. I need some input if anyone knows realistic patterns. The idea is you hand out medals at the end of your patrol. You enter this stuff, then push the "crew rotation" button, and out pops a list of who is shipping out. Then you get to do promotions. Then you fill in the empty spots. Then you go out on patrol again.

I also want some ideas on positions, like "Chief of the Boat" and "Executive Officer" and what places they typically take on the ship (that is, in the game crew management screen). The game doesn't really do this, this is extra.

Other things I haven't mentioned: throw 'em out there.
