Crimson Tide - The book, not the film
 

I just finished reading Crimson Tide, by Richard P. Henrick and was very much impressed. The author has submarine ops spot-on and I found only one or two technical errors, both minor.

If you've seen the film, read the book. Read it even if you haven't seen the film!

For some reason, I wasn't even thinking the movie had been based on a book.

I also didn't know that "Crimson Tide" is the sports collective at the University of Alabama; I thought the title was a reference to bloody seas or something similiar... very clever title, if ya ask me
