Ping: Brag,Steed,all IX fans.

Im currently in the middle of the most unlucky patrol in my career. Im floating around the ED grids with no success. Im about 7 days from needing to start back to base and I have nothing to show for it except a destroyed set of periscopes and flak guns. Where can I go to possible snag some singles at night with the UZO before I turn around and go home?

Stealth Hunter 11-17-07 06:13 PM

The fabled Tanker Alley.

NipplesTheCat 11-17-07 06:19 PM

Where is that?

Stealth Hunter 11-17-07 06:55 PM

Off Normandy. Can't tell you where, exactly. Sworn secret.

Brag 11-17-07 07:22 PM

You may need to do a search, I have a chart screenie posted on the Tanker Alley location.

If I remember right, it is on BF39. measure 15 kms south from NE corner then run a line 240 degrees from there. That's Tanker Alley (if I got the brid correctly).

The other good location is off Cape Sao Vicente. Draw a line from 20 Kms. south of the Cape to the center of Gibraltar Strait. Lots of singles there.

Good luck! :D

Herr Kaluen,

Tanker alley??

Refer to Operation Spinnennetz above sticky.

Check the intel map.... :arrgh!:

Don't feel so misjudged....you've completed your patrol, did your part in shielding off the enemy from resupplies.
The fact that no-one showed up in your grids means, that they are more likely to show up in others...so in fact, you're narrowing the chance of getting through the uboat-screen you help putting up.
Do your job...follow the orders.

Look at it this way: in RL, you would be glad you made it home safe again...and the end of the war got closer again too.
You will be an ace, regardless of resuls during this patrol in particular.

*edit* sorry, I am VIIC/XXI-fan...:()1:

im just a sub driver, i sink stuff, and when im not sinking stuff, u bet ur sweet arse im looking for it

when i look, i go near ports, scan coastlines, et cetera. and if nothing else happens...

i set sails on the periscope and let the winds carry me home!:arrgh!:

I've had plenty of patrols in a type IX that have resulted in not much tonnage, but I have been glad to make it back to port in one piece. Best way to get some kills is to use the convoy/single merchant traffic map form the stock game, I have and it has helped me bag a many convoys. Also try Operation Spinnennitz for intel on ship traffic for your patrol grid.

Tanker alley strectches from BF3933 to BF 3977. Just go up and down those two points, slowly, and go to pd every few hours. Don't waste your time on the merchants, unless its calm weather, then you can use your deck and flack guns. I'll use up all of the IXB's eel's in 5 days there on Tankers and C3's. Oh, and there is also an occasional convoy:smug:

I just arrived in that grid. 5 hours of patrolling later, I made sightcontact with a convoy.

Summer'40, that means 2 warships,.... and by now they are GONE :arrgh!: together with the first torpedo salvo and 3 freighters.

Right now, I've just reloaded, darkness has just arrived and my manouvers put me now on the left flank 2000m to the outer lane.....

I'm afraid I won't have enough torpedos to find out if there would be single freighters in this area :rotfl:
