JEEEESE , MAN, and i thoot we had History lessons when we went to school
Lancasters with inverted American Stars on aluuminum skin hunting ships in the Pac.
Ouch, it hurts.... You mean i actually PAID for this? question: is it possible to take the SH III planes (plus weapons and stuff) and stove them into SH IV straight away,or are both Sims incompatible in that respect? I have fond memories of Wildcats to replace the Buffaloes, and Avengers to get rid of our Torpedo Bomber. Someone have a Spare SBD or two? What about the SH III Ships like the Ammunition Freighter? The Jap Flying Boats are cute, as are the general Modelling and the Men aboard the Cargoes, DDs and BBs. Good to be back in the saddle, now i just have to learn about US boats, wich seem all the same, and dont even have the same amount of AAA as mx good old IXC.... :rotfl: hi gang wasssup! :arrgh!: |

Welcome to this side of the world :D
The Lancaster is definitely a bit weird - but then again, so was seeing a bunch of British battleships at Pearl Harbor in Pacific Fighters  You'd think people spending all that time and money doing a game about a specific historical subject would catch something like that - why even bother to put the thing in the game, since the uninformed would never miss it and the informed are just put off by it? However, I guess I stopped being amazed/disappointed by dumb stuff like this way back in the Nintendo days when they put out the "1943: The Battle of Midway" game - I mean, c'mon :nope: |
The reason for the inaccurate aircraft in SH4 is that Ubisoft has been advised by several US aircraft manufacturers that if it wishes to include models of aircraft which the company produced historically (also inclusive of designs by companies that the modern company now owns) then Ubisoft had to pay them royalties to do so. Therefore Ubisoft decided to remove all offending planes and replace them with more acceptable generic models from companies that didn't mind them being used or were defunct. Hence you get Avro Lancasters and Brewster buffalos and I think the torp/dive is modelled on the Vindicator, may wrong about that though.
The Devs knew full well what aircraft they should use, it you notice in the intro movie there is a PBY Catalina. |

What you wrote could be true in a moder racing game wich use existing sport car modells, but not with WWII games and military aircrafts. Or do you honestly think that the 1.000.000 + 1 WWII games nowdays all pay to all manufacturers ?? |
Its sadly true. That's why many fighters were unflyable in pacific fighters. They can afford licensing for a top title, but Silent Hunter isn't really a giant moneymaker for them, so they couldn't afford to pay the licensing fees and still hire a dev team.
As long as a company still holds the patents, the aircraft and all digital representations are that companies. Stupid but true. |
It IS true. Northrup grumman, and i think lockheed-martin as well, have established copyrights on their aircraft. Kinda sucks that you can put a copyright on history.

For instance, i believe "BumbleBee" wasnt a volskwagen bettle in the Transformers Movie, because Volkswagen didnt want their car used as a fighting machine. Flight sims tend to not show the crashes because the aircraft manufactures dont want their planes to be associated with crashes, etc, etc. Everybody wants their cut and/or wants to protect themselves from some preceieved negative image...their laywers are doing a good job of finding stuff to do in order to justifying their presence and high retainers.:nope: |

Same goes for the B24 and Avenger |
yeah but they look crappy compared to Sh4s planes.

Instead of the Lanc Sure they would have been bought up to the same spec as the SH4 air units |
OUCH
hell, the romanians would have done a good job at PROMOTING those Aircraft, and , in result, their Manufacturers. I mean... Libs, Wildcats Bearcats and PBYs WON the war, right? I could understand Mitsubishi being pissed because their Zeroes get a "flaming" in this game, but this jhust defies my sense of logic/use. Same shat as for 1946, couldnt get an F8F airborne without buying a license, or paying hughe Royalties. our new god be called Money an so forth  Well, lets do them ourselves. :hmm: |
heh JU88, what would i have to pay YOU to get a look at whats on your Harddrive?:D
gotta get my SHIII1.4Gwx1.03 up too... |
