Interesting site with some info on torpedo attack procedures and deck gun info
 

Intersting site which for one, illuminates as to the fact that there was a ready locker on deck for the deck gun with a store of shells. Has a recording of a 5" being fired too.

aye the ready locker made sense, you had some shells to start firing with asap whilst the rest were being setup in the human chain

i remember reading a comparison between german and yank subs in a book that mentioned it somewhere, the jerries never cottoned to do it.
