Strange convoy symbol on the map
 

Hi Kaleuns!

At this moment I see strange symbol with description of large convoy.
But a sign is a circle not a square!
Take a look at this:

What's going on?! In all may career I didn't meet something like this.
It's possible that it was large submarines group, or just a bug?
I must check it out :ahoy: !

Har - i've seen that sometimes. Not sure why it's not a square. Could it be because there are neutrals within the convoy (i.e., it's a mixed-bag)?

Isnt it a circle (symbol for subs) because the lead ship (not the escorts) is a submarine?

If it's not a bug, maybe it indicates the convoy is shadowed by AI submarines.
I found this symbol sometimes (last one a couple of days ago in Mid-Atlantic).

The large circle symbol indicates that the convoy is under attack by one or more Uboats. When you approach you will see some of the merchants and warships on fire. If you are using your WO to order attack with the deck gun, the Uboats will be attacked as well. If they sink you will take a huge reknown hit when docking. So, if you use you deck gun, do so manually.

yup... its a wolfpack contact report. if you hurry to it you might find that the convoy is under attack from several surfaced U-boats.

It IS a submarine :yep:

Somehow the game engine decides that the sub is the most dominant ship in that convoy and assigns the symbol accordingly.

I've seen those icons before, but I have NEVER EVER found one of those enemy subdrivers in a convoy :(
Once I HEARD one of them, I was submerged and had my periscope trained towards him but couldn't see anything. He must been submerged again

there are convoys with submerged enemy AI submarines within them as an escort... they cant attack you... they cant surface... they spawn submerged and thats it. the only advantage they offer a convoy is that if you are approaching he will be more likely to hear you and therfore alert the escorts.

if you look closely you can find his periscope sticking out of the water too.

But when you receive a contact report that reports the symbol as a circle... it is under attack from a wolf pack. AI u-boats spawn on the surface, can only attack with guns, and cannot submerge. so what you end up with is a suicide squad of about 5 or 6 u-boats rushing the convoy with guns blazing... so unless you are very close, by the time you get there the only thing you will see is a few flaming escorts because by now all of the friendly AI u-boats have been sunk by the escorts.

but if you are close... you will get to participate in the attack.

Our kameraden died during their bravery attack on this convoy.
I will have my revenge on Tommies...

Just last night I ran into a convoy escorted by two Black Swans, a Flower and an S-Class (!).

Of all the great things GWX has brought us if they could get AI subs in which could actually attack with torpedo's I think i'd be in heaven! :p

Oh and swordfish and avengers that actually use torpedo's - hehe wishes are free :know:
