weather mod

I think the random rain and storms in this game must happen when I am in high TC between Pearl and my assigned mission. I have seen a little rain but nothing more than that.

Is it possible to create a mod that significantly increases the likelyhood of bad weather during the appropriate months? Or have others experienced this and it's just the luck of the draw?

When I am in TC I regularly hit ctl + w ( Trigger Maru ) to see what's going on with the weather, if it is storming I will come out of TC and patrol for a bit.

Maybe in time there will be something similar to the SH3 Weather App.

I believe Leovampire was working on more frequent weather changes. Sometimes I sail for a few weeks without rain. My current patrol it has rained for over 5 days and has just cleared up. The weather changing is a bit better than SH3. All I know is when it starts to rain I'm hoping it clears up soon. Such a pain to find the targets in the murk when you do have one in your area.

Me too AVG. My last patrol it rained hard for eight days straight with really ugly seas. It ate up a bunch of fuel. I finally just stopped and submerged and waited on it to clear up. I sit in the same spot for two days.:stare:

AVG...
I think that Leo did mention somewhere that he would like the weather to be more variable, more often. There is a value that can be changed within the scene.dat file that effects this.

If your familiar enough with Mini Tweeker you can make the change yourself.
Just open scene.dat and look for the Wind category....you'll see two values.

WindHeadingChangeSpeed...and...WindSpeedChangeSpeed.

Stock value for both is 0.01

In ROW, Leo has both these values set to 0.03...you could go higher, say to 0.05 ,and see if that makes the weather more changeable to your liking.

Cheers!

I just didn't go to high because there is a weather loop the game get's stuck in sometimes due to the way the save game file's work and found it tended to keep the game's weather from not changing for long period's of time but that might be fixed with the 1.4 patch from what I have gatherd in the post's with the new save game work they are doing.

using the ROTW mod ive played about 3 weeks game time and its blue skies and calm sea's all the way. i remember a lot of good work that was done to SH3 to improve the weather, is there anyone workin on makin the SH4 weather more dynamic?

TDK1044 11-13-07 09:36 AM

Yeah. Bad weather is fun and good drama too....struggling to see your target in order to stand any chance of hitting it. True, Silent Hunter 3 would naturally offer a more varied weather experience due to it being set in the Atlantic, but my experience of the weather in Silent Hunter 4 is that it's very boring. I hope one of our talented modders can create some storms for us. :D

AVGWarhawk 11-13-07 12:00 PM

I do not find the weather boring really. To me it is real time. Last night as I worked on the halo effect I was outside the sub at X32 TC to watch the sun. The skys were clear. About 2 hours passed (at X32 TC) small whisps of clouds started rolling in. Then it got thicker with clouds until it was a full storm. If I was playing at X1 the whole time I could have watched the weather system roll in....like the real thing. ROW has really enhanced the weather.

TDK1044 11-13-07 01:11 PM

You're correct, AVG. I'm waiting for 1.4 before I add the ROW mods. Currently, I'm just running with Trigger Maru and a few small mods. :D

I have not tried TM. I very happy with what RSRD has offered and I do like the mix of stock aggressive and stock passive DD.

It's all well and good as long as you don't happen to be sneaking into a harbor to do a photo recon of some carriers when a typhoon hits. This happened to me in Rabaul, I believe I had to get within 300 yards in order to get the photos. I will admit the bad weather made getting into and out of the harbor easier though.
