The Bedford Incident
Saw this movie on the recommendation of a friend and was pretty much blown away. Anyone else here a fan, or, perhaps who's read the novel they based it off of?

I saw the movie a long time ago, and it struck me as pretty good
I have read the novel as well, but only in german translation, but that translation was pretty good as far as naval language goes. I can't remember the film, but in the book the reporter is the greatest ******* ever to be protagonist in a novel. Also, in the book, the torpedoes fired at the Bedford are not nukes, but blow her out of the water just as well. |
I highly recommend the novel, its ending is quite different than that of the film.

Foreshadowed the end of the movie, in a way, since the Soviet captain...well, I imagined him reacting to the Bedford's harassment in much the same was as Finlander reacted to Munceford. Quote:
I'll have to give the novel a read, though. |
Great movie:rock:

I also own this movie. Widmark as the hard driving cold warrior out on the front line. If youv'e seen any of his psycho killer movies think of him without the laugh, and add the responsibility of command in the far flung regions of the very north atlantic with a over zealous news man on his destroyer. Great flick.

My favorite line from that movie by the former U-Boat commander: "No captain, I find you frightening". and ... "You do have an evassive plan, don't you Captain Finlander?" Arming ASROC Captain: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASROC |
I haven't seen that movie for years but thought it was great. Funny though--I didn't ever think that the torps were nucs but thought the mushroom cloud symbolized what the incident started, ie WWIII.
Think I'll order the book now :yep:! |
