Improved Captains log needed in my opinion...

as well as more accurate accounting for the ship sinkings. I play this game more hours than I care to admit and have a reasonable proficiency at 50% realism and even succeded a few times on difficult single missions at 100% level. More times than I can count, I have not received credit for sinkings even though the ship is below the surface after being torpedoed. Also the incomplete shows up in mission objectives even though I clearly complied. For example, a recent foray with the Guadacanal single mission requires contact report before starting the conning to attack. Report issued in the proper log page and the contact information sent after radar and visual sighting, but the final mission report says incomplete. All other items completed. If there is one deficiency in this game, it is this data logging. I hope that they include changes in any further patches or some modders can create a better captains log. Anyone else disappointed by this one deficiency in an otherwise excellent simulation?

Ive never really had issues with not getting credit except for one time I sank a ship in shallow water and it struck bottom before it 'sunk'.

Then again I generally only play campaign mode.

Some of the mission objectives are kind of obscure there is a sticky post in the FAQ about "how to complete a mission" might be worth browsing.

As far as a better captains log ? Hell yes, for one thing Id like to be able to enter my own notes, I also dislike how the entrys are sorted. Page after page of contact reports interspersed with my own reports is messy. Yes I am aware they can be sorted by sent / recieved. Still pages of contact reports hundred of miles from my station are of no importance to my log yet they are full of this 'spam'.

Forgot to add ; Welcome to the forums !

(Paragraphs are a good thing :) )

I'd like two simple changes:

1. Log entry for when I leave port.

2. Common names for ships sunk when I go back through my logs in the "office" screen. I don't want to see "CVTaiyo" or "OLNippon"...I want to see "Taiyo Escort Carrier" and "Large Modern Tanker"

Even better would be actual Maru names....

Maybe it's the single missions and war patrol setups...

that somehow mess up the accounting features of the game. I'm playing mostly the modder missions.

thanks for the reference thread -- been there already but will check again.

So I guess I'll continue to stop the game and write my log book by hand, then return to the game forgetting what the next action should be because I am an old f*rt.

Righto, paragraphs it is.

I hear you. I always ALWAYS forget to jot down what day / time I set out from port.

"Have been at sea for 5 or 7 days ?" Beats me when did we leave. :p

I was always under the impression if you didn't SEE it sink or weren't in close proximity enough when the ship went under, you wouldn't get credit. Thought it was intentional.:D

I really would like the ability to add my own Captain's Log notes. Haven't had a game let me do that since Starflight 2.
