Magnification

In GWX is stated that the periscope zoom is increased to 10X( in stock was less).

My question is : It refers to the Obs periscope or Attack periscope or both?

Attack periscope only.

Just wait to get your attack periscope destroyed by some kind of accident like depth charges. YouŽll use the observation periscope:hmm: .

New-ish guy question of this. I have found based on some personal experience that the absolute best way to "adjust" your scope is to leave it fully extended as the escort makes its D/C run over to you.

So, that brings this question to mind... If I have the opportunity again to use this last-ditch "scope-extended" method to thrust it into the thin underbelly of the charging escort from above, which scope is more ruggged or pointy for such a tactic? The OBS scope or the Attack scope? Or perhaps a double-pronged joust of both scopes is even better. Hmmmm..... :hmm:

Uhm.....their hulls are thin, but not really THAT thin. The hull metal on a DD is normally about 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick. Some heavy stuff.
You have to remember: DD displacing over 1000 tons hitting your periscope is akin to beating a whale with a small stick. Damage incured will most likely be a small dent and paint scratchs on the hull of the DD, while you'll have utterly destroyed your scope.
Now, you MIGHT get lucky and rupture a seam in the hull, or if it hits their screws you could throw their shaft out of balance.

Ramming them on the other hand could cause significate damge.........to both of you. Remember though: The DD simply needs to stay afloat. You on the other hand need to dive, and a damaged hull limits that severly.

While that's true in real life, in the game you can get rammed by a destroyer with minimal or even no damage, while he will quickly "go down in flames". It doesn't matter which scope, or no scope; it just happens.

I wish it was fixed.

Hi Ping Have you been playing some Medevil games lately ? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Ping Panther 10-11-07 11:57 AM

So it sounds like Andy has the best of the ways to handle this thrust & parry of the scopes-up tactic. I must therefore consider to faint a dodge amidst their shafts & screws whilst they swiftly expose their jangling aft bits on the final pass they make on me. :yep:

No probs.

Thanks guys! :rotfl:

Hmm this to me sounds like a new idea for a game...... U-boat joust!
