I'm embarassed to ask but what Sub is this?
Kapitain your presence is requested in Sonar... :)
http://www.alrosa.net/photos/_1995_04.htm Docked next to the Kilo. I thought I knew every russian submarine but this one I don't reconize. :hmm: |
The caption says experimental submarine ss-533.The sole Beluga (Russian Makrel’)-class (Project 1710) trials submarine, SS-533, inactive at Sevastopol’ since 1997, was stricken during late 2001

Now upon futher review of that pic I have another question, WTF is THAT THING parked next pier up from the Kilo, docked next to the Julliet SSG? :o (Make sure to check out both the Russian and English sections they have diffrent photos!) |
Think that may be the accomadation ship i know that had a few converted hulks made up to house sailors, but im not 100% on that.
|
Just out of curiousity, was this submarine always attached to Sevastopol?
It was indeed a very unique looking submarine. |
correct me if im wrong (yes you kapitan) but i belevie that the sub was built at leningrad but was assinged to the black sea fleet (sevastepol). it was only used as a trials sub and i dont think it was armed. so yes Sevastepol/Balacalva was its only homeport. (Balaclava being the "navy" docks/sub bunker across town towards the south)
|
Yes it was only based at sevstopol built not only to test new equipment but also doubled up as a training vessel.
