That sinking feeling that it won't sink

Hi,

Shouldn't this large Merchant have sunk, eventually? I was completely out of ammo and torps as I had been molesting a convoy. Went back to this one which had fallen back but was still under very reduced power. I stayed with it most of the night be she wouldn't go down. Not a great screenshot but you can see that she has taken on a great deal of water as the forward decks are awash. Should I have stayed a while longer? Probably wouldn't have scored the tonnage though due to the length of time taken. BTW - GWX patch 1.03

Eventually is the operative word. Some ships can take a long time to sing. the damage model in GWX uses both damage and flooding to determine when a ship has had enough. If the sum of those is not enough she stays afloat.

To my mind it's odd that it hasn't sunk. I have always found the 'large merchant' will always go down with a torpedo hit anywhere between the bridge and just behind the bow where the foreward hold begons, virtualy 100%. Was the hit on the very tip of the bow.
If it hasn't gone down after all the time you have waited, it probably won't now.

How much ammunition have you in your flak gun, try that. It might just tip it over the edge in the damage modeling. :p

No ammo left at all, so flak gun was also empty. Used it to finish off some ships. Ramming doesn't work but it didn't stop me from having a few goes out of frustration. If I had been able to board, the extra weight would have probably sunk her :p

Yea, I agree. I must have had a bad hit on the bow. These ships usually go down pretty quick and make great firework displays on their way down. Not this time though

It's very frustrating to have to sail away from a fairly high tonnage ship like that, especially as you know that just one deck gun shell would probably have sunk her. Oh well, next time maybe :)

I know the feeling. It gets worse as well, when you have to leave whole convoys behind through lack of ammnunition. :-?

I usually put two shots into big beasts like him just to make sure. Though if you only have one torpedo left, its fate isn't it? Do you attempt it and perhaps not succeed, or, do you hold it and maybe bump into something you definately can sink with one Torpedo on the way home?

Have you tried shouting harsh language at it? That should sink it:lol:
