have sunk 11600t freighter in heave seas in surface attack NE Limrock sub base. ship went down slowly after hits in bow and stern. suspect problem with magnetic detonators as first 2 torpedos failed to detonate. following 2 were successful. am proceeding to designated patrol area. attacked by aircraft some hrs after attack on freighter. went to periscope depth to evade. surfaced then continued on course
