1 million Chinese-made cribs recalled

I wonder if another CEO is going to commit suicide over this one.

Might not happen.....Knowing what the Chinese think of their own infant mortality rates :hmm:

This kind of thing will really piss off the authoritys in China.

Heads will roll like only they can in China.

Mattel today has excused to the Chinese people for having called back too many items recently, it seems. More precisely: 13% of the items were called back for poisenous colours used by the Chinese producers, but the rest, 87%, was called back for problems and dangers coming from bad design of the items, designed by Mattel.

Ehem...

No, actually it's not. The Chinese used the plans supplied by Simplicity the American designer.

Cheep American designers?
Is that common over there?

Quote: The drop-side can detach from the crib, which can create a dangerous gap that leads to an infant being trapped and suffocated, the safety agency said in a statement. It urged parents to check all Simplicity-made cribs to ensure the drop- side is installed correctly. (Page 1, Paragraph 2)

Apparently this is not the blame on neither China nor Chinese. That the blame should be solely born by the designers. The designers are USA designers, while the Chinese workers are just following the blueprints they draw

So.... please DON'T curse / flame / whatever Chinese. I'm a Chinese and I'm innocent. Imagine how would you feel if someone attempts to curse you for being innocent. That's sarcastic and freaky, dude!

Nobody curses you, so cool down. :) As the German article said and as I quoted it, only 13% of the items being dangeorus is chinese responsibility (poisonous colours being used), while 87% are design flaws by Mattel like you pointed out. Mattel should have kept these two issues seperate from the beginning, instead of trying to hide their responsibility behind those Chinese 13%.

German press today reports, that more things from Chinese production got called back, this time it is beds for small children and babies, the company is named Simplicity. If it is an American company producing in China, or a fully Chinese company I do not know. Two babies had been killed, 60 incidents reported. Let's see. This also goes not directly against you, peterloo. but to ask people not to be critical about chinese production in general, is a bit too much. chinese cars are a catastrophe, by Western standards, for example, they have produced the worst marks in the history of crash test-recordings, and failed even most elemental security standards with flying colours. Also, product pirating and stealing designs from Western manufactures on an extremely large scale are some very severe problems with the Chinese economy that you cannot ask us to ignore them. the damage to our own economies, caused by this stealing, is giant.

Argh, this time I caught myself. Scratch my Simplicity story from the list.

In this case, yes, it was the crib designer's fault. But that doesn't take away from the countless other cases where lead based paint is knowingly used in American bound products, melamine is substituted in pet food for protien, antifreezse in toothpaste and countless other instances of the Chinese poison train.
