Question: In Museum Under American Submarine, Balao Class Fleet Boat Has TWO Deck Guns ~ BUT~ Not In The Game ~ Why Not ???

Question should be why does the museum piece have two guns ? Probably a late war retrofit.

My guess is that the in-game models have a place for both forward and rear gun mounts. My uneducated guess anyways!

All the submarines in the museum are in their late war, 1945, configuration. If you notice all the boats, even the earlier pre war ones, have cut down conning towers, grey paint schemes etc. The Balao class often mounted a second deck gun at the end of the war. Think it was because the Japanese had lost so much merchant tonnage that they were increasingly using smaller 1000 ton, and below, 'sea trucks' and the like which made viable tagets to sink with gunfire.

Yes some US subs were converted to gunboats in 1945.

"Most submarines lacked effective surface fire control systems, but seven submarines (SS-229, 340, 399, 401, 406, 407 and 408) were converted to "gunboats" during 1945. These boats carried two 5"/25 (12.7 cm) guns, a Mark 6 stable vertical, a Mark 6 computer and a gun plot installed in the forward crew quarters. The computer drove repeaters at the guns."

The game does not allow you to start a campaign in 1945. So you might have to wait for a refit before you can get your 2 deck guns. :D
