Sending pings(Sonar Room)

Hi, I was wondering about the Sonar Room, where you send pings..there is no button to press, however you see my arrow on the " Sende". I wanted to send pings but couldn't.

If anyone knows about the sonar room or sending pings, please tell me.

AlderGrosmann, while I can't say for sure, I would think the sub would refrain from active sonar detection (pinging) because it alerts everyone to your presence and gives away your location.

Thanks for the info..but still it's a problem that I cannot press it.:hmm: I noticed that it gives away presence, but this is the first time I have tested it besides using the NA for telling depth of keel(under keel).

Verify our range to target. One ping, and one ping only...

I think its on the sonar icon with intergrated orders from GWX. :ping:

Do you have "active" sonar? When you go to the U-boat upgrade screen between patrols, there is a difference between upgrading hydrophones (passive) and "buying" active sonar. The active sonar is listed as "sonar". Once you have one, the button should appear below the "sende" label plate. IIRC, if you only have hydrophones, I don't think the button appears.

:ping: I think I have passive,not active.But I'll check,thanks for the info guys.:yep:

AFAIK the "Nibelung" sonar installed first in the Type XXI was the first german active sonar, sending a ping to teh contact for exact range and bearing. No idea if it finally made it into SH3 or the button is just a left over :hmm:

I have KDB sonar right now, which was the second type of sonar to ever be installed. :dead:

AFAIR it`s only passive with no 'send' option.

As for using the sonar - I`ve made few missions recently with GWX 1.03 and XXI with Nibelung. The sonar is great for lone merchs as they can`t notice your pings anyway :D

The problem is,the sonar is not always precise. Besides, I tried to use it on a convoy and it was extremely hard because of multiple targets with VERY similiar bearings - the sonar did estimate range for different targets and therefore it was impossible to estimate range accurately :(

Perhaps it`s just me and I`m doing it not very well.

Not quite. The S-Gerät (also modelled in SH3) was the first active sonar used on uboats. It wasn't very popular though since you couldn't use it without being detected by escorts.

I used the Gerät types more than any other.Except this type was the GHG.
