Destroyer sinks its self

I was just wondering if any of you have ever watched one of the Japanese destroyers sink its self. I was Attacking a Convoy and as my normal I attack the Destroyers first. In the Confusion that preceded the first Destroyer going up the ships began to scatter. As one Cargo ship crossed the path of a Destroyer that was laying some depth charges the Destroyer had to stop, Well I was at Parascope depth so they were setting them off shallow. I watched that Destroyer light its own Fan Tail off like a roman candle. It sat there for a while and went down tail first.

all the time, usually after dropping depth charges, and last night had a sub chaser do the same thing:-? . they'll also self-destruct, sometimes, if the collide you you when at periscope depth

I've seen it happen

They get so frazzeled in trying to get the sub, they forget about other things, Like the big ships of the convoy. All of a sudden, depth charging all the way the captain looks up to see a Large Modern Split Frieghter in his way:damn:. While depth charging continues he calls all back emergency. He backs his ship back over the depth charges set to shallow, and blows himself up as the charges go off just below the hull of his ship. It's a Ahh Crap moment :rotfl: , but they don't do it often, so don't count on it happening, cause when you want that third destroyer to blow himself up, he won't. Another thing, if you see a gunboat and a destroyer working together, the gunboat will always sail over top of you first, and then the destroyer will come over, don't know why it is but in the 50 times I've encountered them, it always works out this way.!!!

Sub Chasers have a probale chance to disable themselves, this one depth charged me doing a harbour raid in Honk Kong, couldn't figure out why he stopped chasing me, pretty hard to go anywhere without these

Actually its kind of an appropriate name. Found it amusing.

There I was, deep inside an enemy harbor in my little S-boat. I had just fired all tubes, unleashing havoc among the Japanese merchant ships there. An enemy destroyer was running back and forth just outside the harbor, like a junkyard dog on a chain, unable to get to me because I was in the middle of a group of ships at anchor. Being impatient, and believing myself safe, I went into time compression while reloading my tubes.

Next thing I hear is BOOM BOOM BOOM and "We're taking damage!" The tin can had somehow found his way past the anchored ships and ran right over my position, dropping depth charges along the way. Fortunately, his aim was off and I suffered only minor damage. The destroyer, on the other hand, had run aground following his attack. I was able to send him to the bottom as he tried to extricate himself.

arrggh! :arrgh!:

Well here are a few screen shots, The first is from that Patrol. The sunk Subchaser took 4 fish to put him down. I put a rather large hole in his bow with a head on shot. This is the first ship I attacked in that convoy as it was the lead destroyer He was running straight at 8 kts and made an easy target.

BTW on another note I have my deck gun on the front. You can always tell what kind of Captain one is by where he puts his gun. Up front he is Aggressive wishes to attack head on and dosnt like to be on the defencive.
On the rear he is more Passive. He uses the gun only as a defence. I sunk Three Destroyers, One Gun Boat, and Nine Merchant ships on that patrol. The Gun Boat I used a torpedo as he and a destroyer was on patrol. The Destroyer kept turning away so I got His attanetion by sinking the Gunboat. I Put a rather large hole thru both sides of the fantail of the Gunboat and he sunk rather quickly. It was durrig the attack on the Convoy that one of the Destroyers sunk himself. I ran out of Ammo before I could sink the last Merchant ship and he got away.

For some reason ships in and around harbors tend to sink themselves when I'm around. One time I got sent into Tokyo Harbor on a Photo Recon mission and I was just sitting there waiting for night to come and I got the sunken ship icon show up out of nowhere on my map. Then when I went back come I decided to actually sail into Pearl Harbor before ending the patrol just to have a look around and there was a really loud explosion sound and I looked to the left only to see 2 ships had run right into each other. They were both on fire and eventually sank.
