Battleship question
I have been on my career for about 20+ missions and have sunk 80k tons now and I have yet to encounter any battleships, I engage everything i find but its always old split frieghters and old composite frieghters and a Destroyer here and there but never once have i even seen a Battleship.. where do they hide? :arrgh!:

Winning the Pacific campaign
I can't speak for SH4 but I can still remember the day after weeks of patrols with SH1 when I finally found three carriers in the scope and managed to bag all three. SH4 is tougher but it's worth the wait. I just hope I can find the time to do it again. The thrill is worth it.

Battleships
Been playing SH4 for 5 months now. Look for Task Force, they have carriers, battleships, etc. Hard to attack in Daytime, better at nite. usally get sunk.
so always Save games. |
i found on task force one time south east of japan 1 yamato 3 kongos and 2 or 3 carriers
|
I found a task force the other day and took out 1 Taiho carrier, 3 Taiyo carriers and 2 heavy cruisers. This was November 43 in the southern Celebes Sea. The funny thing was I had not long ago called in a convoy and was told by Sub command to peel of and RTB at my discretion! I thought this was strange because I was on my way to patrol the south china seas and this was my first contact of that mission. I begrudgingly moved away from the convoy but was still headed north to my originla mission destination (I thought that sub command had got a bit confused and when they said RTB they really meant continue with mission). Anyway a few hours later i pick up a strong radar return, and sure enough Christmas came early for the USS Balao. :arrgh!:
As a side not i am playing this first career at pretty easy settings, I then intend to load TM and go for all out 100% realism |
Im playing my first campaign on super easy as well. want to ease into harder levels slowly since im no expert at these games. I normally hunt task forces, that is i always go after the task force sightings to try to get me some good ships. so far i got lucky with yamato 4 or 5 times and quite a lot of carriers and other battleships. only then do i try to complete the patrol area missions.

Start a carear in the Aisatic Fleet in 41 and patrol the stright between Borneo and Celebs. Lost of TFs.

Ok find Task Force, but it must be large simbol of Task Force other way that will be only 3 destroyers and Huge Europan Liner (also worth to sink) or if you don't want't to search those battleships all day just go to Kobe port its near Osaka you will see when you will zoom in the map. There are always some nice ships last time i founded there:
2 Shokaku Carriers - Both Sunk 1 Hiryu Carrier - Sunk 2 Fuso Battleshipis - Both Sunk Light Crusier - Out of Torpedos Hevy Crusier - Out of Torpedos Lol, but there is one minus... When you will be exiting the base with 200k tonage sink you will see about 30 aicrafts going to kick your ass :P |
Just enter the Tokyo bay, harbor area.
You will get 2 aircraft carriers,2 battleships,1 destroyer. Just sitting ducks. Go inside, shoot with everything you ve got and get the hell out of there as fast as possible. All these stock game, version 1.0 I do not know if anything has changed with the pathces. I pressume the rest of Jap harbors will be crawling with huge ships. |

I don't rember exactly but it was surely the Tokyo harbor area.
1st campaign mission, in version 1.0, where you have to arrive and wait outside of Tokyo bay.I couldn't find anything outside so I entered the bay.No the 1st inlet, the 2nd.1 carrier and 1 destroyer in the pier.1 destroyer sitting duck middle of the bay,2 battleships at the far end of the bay. I think Tokyo is in the 3d inlet,if I remember correct, but I never entered since I fired all my fishes to these 5 targets. The 2 battleships capsized, the carrier middle bay sunk. The other two though show no apparent damage.Although the 2nd carrier took 3 fishes and the destroyer 2. 5 explosions but nothing happened.I even used all my deck gun ammunition on the aircraft carrier's waterline but still nothing had happened. So with 3 targets down I exited the bay and tried to return to Perl. I ve never played again though since then due to my old rig configuration. |
Thanks again everyone for your help, I am in route to search and destroy Task force's . MUHAHAHAHAHA :arrgh!:
BTW: I just entered the 100k tonage club with 71% realism WOOT ! (could NOT have done it without subsim's massive help and guidance) |
Early '44 and I had just been re-deployed to the Bismark Sea. Dispatched a lone merchant on the way there and was almost at my Patrol zone when the SJ Radar picked up a large group moving in my general direction. I tracked them for a while and figured that, given the number of escorts and the pattern of the convoy, there must be some high value targets in the center.
Rang up flank bells for about 2 hours to get about 15 miles ahead, positioned myself dead ahead and reversed course to put myself directly between the two leading escorts. Went deep and ordered silent running. Put the crew at General Quarters and worked for about an hour to beat the forward element of the screen. Slipped into the eastern side of the group, between the easternmost escort and the main body, and then popped up to PD to check out what we were dealing with. The main body consisted of 3 CVs in line ahead formation, an escort carrier, and a heavy cruiser... steaming along at about 12 kts. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Until I noticed the US Flags all over the place! DAMN... I love this game! JCC |
Timely notice
John Channing,
At least you noticed the red white and blue before you had fish in the water! you can radio that one into command. I would imaging that the surface boys would get an earful for allowing you to get so close:oops: As a side question, I wonder if the AI would have permitted the escorts to attack you if you were detected? |
Didn't want to take the chance to find out.
