[TEC] modding the camera.dat with S3D
I've been working with the most excellent Silent Editor for a while now trying to make the different cameras... more interesting for lack of a better word.
So far i've managed to recreate the FreeCam effect for the ConningDeck cam that has been out there for a while and fine tuned it to my liking without much trouble. i've been messing with the binoc view and the uzo view as well and reduced the clipping range so you will *have* to walk around the conning tower to get a clear 360 view which imho felt somewhat strange before having the whole sub disappear whenever you put on he binoculars :) now i'm trying to get that pitching and bobbing movement one can see when inside the sub. I've been trying to clone and adjust the "MechShocksPendulum" bit for that and been partially successful... unfortunately it seems the default orientation of movement of that particular controller is not left and right but forward and back, making the view pitch down when making a turn to the right and up to the left. i tried creating a sub-node and working with the rotation parameters there but so far no luck: while i did manage to get the pendulum to "swing" left and right, it also messed up all the movement controls so you ended up stumbeling (sp?) over the deck like a drunk :D and while trying to look up or down you end up just twisting the view around the centre. one other thing i tried doing is enabling freemove inside the sub by default. unfortunately it seems just adding a freemove node doesn't do the trick here. somehow the controls are all jumbled up there as well and i have not been able to remedy this, either. if anybody has any experience modifying the camera.dat or has otherwise ideas or suggestions please discuss. general tips on how to make best use of the editor are welcome as well. |
now come on ppl - with all the talent around here surely there must be someone who can give me some pointers? or even have some suggestions / requests?
|
look for the other camera mod's available
then send a PM to them and ask for a tutorial maybe they don't want to reviel their secret's in a public forem.

i probably will. But that people are trying to guard "their secrets" sounds strange somehow. To me all the work that goes into modding a game like sh4 is a process with many people cooperating and not some kind of corporate research competion. *I* see no reason whatsoever not to share my findings with anyone interested, but maybe thats just me...
i'll give you that sometimes explaining stuff can become tiresome and you just don't have the time (and patience) to go over everything with someone who needs to do a lot of reading up before becoming serious about what he is trying to do. But imho it's not good for the community to have modders holding back some kind of "secrets". I've never really been part of that community at the time but old falcon 4 and its various derivates (sp?) come to mind when i hear something like that. and that's not meant in a good way... |
I am just guessing on why no one has said anything
I tryed to get some information once on the camera's by posting a question and got no reply's either from anyone and I just droped it and experimented myself and took my chance's.
Sometimes explaining over and over again the same thing and being told you did this wrong and why didn't you do this get's to be tiresome when you are working on other projects. So that could be why they just didn't reply. So ask them nicly if they would be willing to help you in a PM and see if you get better results. |
One other minor point.........
It's only been a little over 24 hours since you posted the query. Perhaps some of the folks that know a bit about the camera.dat haven't been around yet.
