B-52 - For sale?
just saw this article on yahoo. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070824/..._usa_bomber_dc
quite surprising if you ask me. |
A lot of different warplanes are available on the public market, some of them fairly new. The B-52 is now 55 years old and has quite a bit of history behind it. I'm not surprised somebody tried.
What gets me is the cost; back in 1952 they ran about $8 million each. |
thats true. but u just dont see a indivdual going up and asking to buy a $550 million dollar plane out of the blue. and i belive your right about there being many differnt warplanes available for purchase, i belive that the most produced jet aircraft was either the MiG-27 or MiG-17 one of those two.

"It would cost 500 million if sold on the spot" "thats no problem":rotfl:LOL:rotfl:

At the USAF museum in Dayton, there is a Mig 23 on display. The story behind it is that it was purchased by a US civilian, but was confiscated by BATF because they imported it without proper permits. |
Now this is a cool article..
For that money he can built one himself :rotfl: |
and if u did buy it, what would you do with it? i mean its not like a private get which you can land at any decent airport. and imagaine the what the cost to fill it up would be! and im pretty sure the fuel economy isnt that like that of a toyota.

Problem I have is, this is an incontinental bomber. It was my understanding that no US IC bomber could be released to the public in flyable condition due to the threat it posed. This was at least the story with the few B-36s available. Not one can fly nor can they currently ever fly again. Dallas Fort worth historical society tried to restore their example to a flyable condition, until the airforce stated they needed to demilitarize it, what does that mean? Well I thought it meant they removed any and all weapons systems fromt the aircraft. In actuallity it was this along with the dispicable act of pulling the engines off with an f'ing tractor. They litterally ripped the engines and mounts off the wing mounts, thus imparting so much damage to the airframe it will take a whole lot of work to get it to fly again.
So how in the world can a private person be able to purchase a flyable example of a B-52? |
novelty item i guess? it would defintly impress your freinds.
|
bad idea
and dont you think that it would scare the cr*p out of any russian monitoring stations when he tried to fly it home! Especially now the russian airforce has resumed unannounced flights into nato airspace.:ping:
|
yea i guess they probaly havnt seen a B-52 on their radar scopes in a while. i think that within the next few years we might see the rise of a new Russia-it could be back to Cold War era again....
|
Maybe he wanted to live out a Dr Stangelove role play?
Now where is my hat! YEEEEHAAA!:arrgh!: |
yea and since it seems like theryre allies with Iran- who knows what could happen!
|
Could you imagine the faces of a Tu-95's crew seeing that going the other way on one of their trips out?
