Deep enough for you?

Well i decided not to post this one in the funny thread, there is actually a story behind this picture

happened when i was off the coast of Halifax, but still in deep waters. no contacts all the way across the ocean, then out of nowhere, 2 sea planes pop up and bomb me. Ended up having flooding in every conpartment. both diesels destroyed, both electrics heavily damaged and off line.

at around 300 meters, I started getting the flooding under control, by this point the sub was almost pointing straight up.

at about 350 meters i figures i was damn lucky

finally crused at 408 mteres :D

you little modder!!!

there is no way a IXc could be that deep, the max estimated depth for a IXc is 275m

StarFox 08-24-07 10:33 PM

nope, no modding at all. running at 59% realism (dont use manual targeting and i hate no external views)

GoldenRivet 08-24-07 11:43 PM

are you using realistic vulnerability or SH3 commander or GWX?

StarFox 08-24-07 11:55 PM

im using GWX

and yes realistic vulnerability is on

I too have been to 412m in a IXC. Unfortunately I didn't survive. Did you make it back to the surface StarFox?

Shelton 08-25-07 12:41 AM

wow thats incredible - can you get back to base ?

Packerton 08-25-07 01:38 AM

You reached the point where your crew is huddled in a fetal position in a corner whimpering.

Lible 08-25-07 03:25 AM

I got myself down to the seafloor in Gibraltar . And I survived and got some resupplies of Bessel (or whatever was the ship closest to Gibraltar)

PeKe 08-25-07 03:29 AM

Impressive, but how did it end up? With the diesel destroyed, I guess not so good? :dead:

Torvald Von Mansee 08-25-07 03:37 AM

I once got down to 503 meters. I really don't think that was realistic.

Crush damage (and necessarily so) takes time to accrue. When you reach those unreasonable depths... it means you are on a one-way ticket to Davey Jones locker... and crush damage is actively accruing.

If we increased the speed of the crush damage, all sorts of other madness occurs in-game.

In SH3 (and GWX) "crush depth" is the point where you BEGIN to take damage... not the point of "instant-death."

Technically, you can spend a very short time below your crush depth and survive it... but you better be blowing ballast like hell and running flank to get to the surface... to stay ahead of your NEW crush depth as it is continually reducing.

Crush damage, as it begins to occur... lessens the crush depth.

If your hull integrity is low enough... you may crush even at periscope depth.

Interesting thought!
