To attack a flower, or not?
 

Late 1940, I am a few 100 miles off the Azores, and ran into a big convoy with only 1 flower escort up front. I'm in a type VIIB. Seas are the calmest I've ever seen in this game. Wind is 0, completely flat. Perfect for deck gun... except for that flower.

So I'm thinking, torpedo the flower from periscope depth as the convoy approaches. 180 rounds of rounds plus the torps I have left for the convoy if I get him.

Or, just sneak up, pick a ship off. Hide. Go past the convoy. Reacquire. Repeat.

You could destroy the flower in one on one combat even in GWX if you take out his weapons as fast as possible with good deck gun skill, after his weapons are gone finish him off with waterline shots to make sure he cant ram you then have your way with the convoy :up: :arrgh!:

Hmmm, maybe we should give that convoy more escorts?:hmm: 1940 though. Hmmm.

Trim the flower! Then you can have your merry way with the convoy. Just remember to post some screen shots after you have had your fun.:arrgh!:

Use your deckgun! With good skilled deckgunners it must not be to hard

If that is only the escort and the merchants arent armed its well worth whatever risk their may be.

Put her down like a cold beer. And enjoy it as much. Don't really matter how you do it, but I like to save hull integrity. Enjoy the turkey shoot.:rock:

Get stuck in and get rid of the Flower. The convoy is then yours to enjoy for as long as you have ammo.:arrgh!:

Torpedo the Flower. Why take a chance in missing with the deck gun and losing out on that unarmed convoy.

If your a real uboat captain you will sink as many cargo ships as possible! Follow your orders from BdU and sink merchants!!

Try to torp the corvette. It would make your original task way less complicated in this situation as you don't have to sneak away and get into position again.
If the flower is gone, you can STAY in your attack position when not having to evade detection or an attack.

I wouldn't risk a surface fight though. It may work many times this early but bad luck can happen to every one. So don't risk the lives of your crew and go for a torpedo attack ;)

You have relatively free hands there. Your main order is to sink merchants, right. But those orders can't be THAT specific and exclusive. It depends heavily on the situation you're in. And in some cases it's better to waste one torpedo for something you're not directly ordered if your main task can profit from that.

You guy's have no sense of style.

I have sense of the style of my sub's bow and don't want to get it all messed up with bruises and buckels :roll:

Take him out......but i think a torp for a flower is overkill......happy hunting
