There was fix for the Gato AA view ?
Just that....
There was a fix for the gato AA weapon view ? The conning tower side walls obstruct the view in my installation... may be i miss it. Thanks in advance ! |
Early war conning tower. Its acutally historically accurate. If you dig around here:
http://www.navsource.org/archives/08/04idx.htm You'll find all sorts of pictures. Later on you'll get a refit (happends randomly when returning from patrol) which cuts the weather fairings away. Or you could always mod it and force the midwar tower earlier. For the most part, the war progression on US subs looks similar to this: http://www.ducimus.net/sh4/release/porpoise_refits.jpg http://www.ducimus.net/sh4/release/s...rgo_refits.jpg http://www.ducimus.net/sh4/release/T...gar_refits.jpg http://www.ducimus.net/sh4/release/gato_refits.jpg |
Many thanks for response Ducimus... but may be i explained it bad... or i dont understand you well...
The problem i have, is when i take my AA gun my self, my "face/head" goes out of the conning tower... and the conning tower side wall do not let to me to see anything... I will take an screen shot... many thanks for help... |
I guess im confused, a screenshot would help.

Yeah I can vouch for this, it's not that the tower is innacurate but when you look port or starboard the camera cuts outsite of the tower blocking your view. Meaning the tower wall is between your "eyes" and the AA gun.

:damn: can only shoot planes coming from astern. cant find a fix (im a noob here, and theres a bunch of mods...), so if anyone knows how to solve this, please let us know.

I am looking to straboard... and my face is outside the conning tower at port... then the port wall obstruct my view when i attempt to rise up the aiminng reticle.

Dunno if this will help I have found that I only get this problem with twin machine guns if I use the singles no problems.
Not a big issue for me as I tend to dive away from planes anyway |

Any way... i dont like the idea to loss the twins... many thanks for help  |
I thought I remembered someone coming up with a fix for this view problem as well, but I couldn't find it. I'm thinking maybe it had something to do with tweaking one of the camera files to change clipping distance - this is the trick that made the conning tower "disappear" so you could do a 360-degree scan of the horizon with the binoculars without all that stuff in the way, so I'm thinking maybe it could make the bathtub wall disappear too - might be worth a try, but I've never experienced the problem so I'd have to set up something with a Gato to give it a try.

Yep - this seems to be fixable :)
Ok - got a chance to test some things out, and there does seem to be a way to get rid of this bathtub blocking thing - see screenshots below of an early war (April 1942) Gato with twin 20mm AA guns, trained to the side:
Zoomed out: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y96...htubfixed1.jpg Zoomed in: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y96...htubfixed2.jpg The fix to get this was very simple - just use minitweaker on the cameras.dat file to change the CameraParams Clipdistance settings to 0.5 (I did it for both dropdowns - "AA20mmPortGun" and "AA20mmStarbGun" - not sure if that's really necessary or not). At the stock/previous settings of 0.1, the bathtub wall blocking view was there, but with these new settings, it's not. I have noticed some odd behavior (sight disappearing when not firing) if you traverse the gun too rapidly side-to-side, so this may not be the perfect fix or a couple of other tweaks might be needed to improve it, but it sure beats losing sight of your whole gun and target like it is the other way. [EDIT - see post below - changing to 0.4 instead of 0.5 seems to help eliminate the disappearing sight issue while traversing] Hope this works for you - if you still can't find the previous modder's fix out there somewhere, maybe this will be worth a try (I'm running/testing this only at 1024x768 - not sure if results will vary at different resolutions, but hey - it's a start). |
if theres an aa gun , ill use it as much as i use the .50 gun to take down merchants. shooting down aircraft is a bit tricky, but not impossible, and its a good way to prevent more to come later to check you out because the last one reported your position course and speed.
one exemple of how invaluable aa guns can be: yesterday, while doing the marshall islands patrol, i sailed north to wake island and surprise:o 1 jap merchant, one destroyer and 1 subchaser were docked there. i had to sail close into the port to get 2 of them, which were obstructed by the piers, going very slow and halfway from periscope depth because of the shallow depth there. after taking both warships down with a couple torpedoes, i surfaced to gun down the merchant; a few minutes later, a few scout planes appeared out of nowhere, i managed to shoot one but the other escaped, then a few minutes later a couple dive bombers were harassing me while i was trying to get out to safe waters. if i didnt shoot them down on their first run (one almost crashed into my boat) even before they dropped their bombs, i would never make it (only got minor damage), as more and more kept coming after that looking for me. those 3 kills completed my mission, so i dived right outside port, stopped and waited till nightfall to get outta there and back home. i half surfaced once and there were planes everywhere (but too many ). suppose i freed wake island:lol:, but when i returned to pearl harbor i transfered to the pacific fleet. wish i didnt tho... ill try that fix, and if it works, bless you. if it doesnt, bless you anyway :D |
