Sad news regarding a subsim member, Deepbluewolf

A well respected member of the ubi forums recently died in a car wreck. He's posted occasionally here as well. From his posts he was the kind of guy you wanted to meet in person and have a beer with.

Blue skies, DBW.

This is not a drill. This is hard.

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you all that our friend, DeepBlueWolf, died today in a car accident just outside his farm home in Germany. Swerving to avoid a child that ran into the path of his car, DBW left the road and crashed. He was airlifted to Hospital and operated on but sadly couldn’t be saved. The child was unhurt.

DBW will be sorely missed - of that I have no doubt. His threads drew hundreds, sometimes thousands, of views and replies and his contribution to the community here cannot be questioned. He loved SH3 and later SH4, and was always willing to spend time helping new players to both games. His sense of fun and wise cracks was over whelming and shine through, especially in his ‘Skywalker’ threads which can be read in the SH4 General Forum which I am confident will live on.

Lately, having helped his elder son with school projects, DBW learned how to produce some pretty slick Sig banners, which he generously offered to forum members, such was his nature to share.

Born in Portugal, and later living in Germany, DBW trained to be a fighter pilot, flying various aircraft – his favourite being his beloved F-16. I have attached some photos him doing what he loved best.

I’m honoured to have known you, and to have been a friend of yours DBW. I’m also honoured to be given the responsibility by your crew man who broke the news to me, to announce this tragic news to the forum. I just hope I’ve done you proud my friend.

I dedicate the August Screenshot Competitions to DBW’s memory.

He leaves a wife, a brother, four young children who he very much loved, and a devoted crew.

I have no doubt tonight many arms are reaching across the forum and many of us are looking skyward. Your favourite song, David Bowie's' Ground Control to Major Tom' will forever remind me of you and your great character. God bless.

At the request of the family, they'd prefer only the one image that isn't quite so personal be on the forums, so I removed the one with the cockpit open.

I never knew him or had any 'online contact' with him, but my deepest sympathies go to his family, friends and to anyone that knew him.

To die in and of it's self is a horrible thing. To die so young is worse. At least he was a hero to the end, which is the very best any of us can hope for.

I read about his passing over at the IL2 forums.

Seems like this guy had made a lot of 'friends' and everyone seemed to like him.

Its a shame. May he rest in peace and my condolences to the survivors.

My condolences go out to the family and friends who are no doubt feeling a great lose at this time. You will be in my prayers.

My condolences also to his family and all his friends. He will be missed by everyone everywhere he touched..... websites, home, work and play. Hopefully he's now God's Co-Pilot.

RIP DBW. You can patrol the skies as you wish. ~S!~
