C2 takes along time to sink
Ok I get two eels into the stern of this C2 and I figure lets see how long she takes to go down as she is dead in the water. This is at 12:37pm.
I come back at about 4:30pm and she is still a float so I decide to head South and come back again in about 2 or 3 hours and all of a sudden about 1 hour later I hear "Ship Sighted" - and its a ship travelling at a very fast speed heading exactly to this strucken C2 !!! and I id it to be a C Class Destroyer!! oh dear! so now to claim this kill I will have to negoiate a new friend in town!! oh no - lets see what happens when I play again next time! I may wait it out and see if the Destroyer leaves the area. Cheers Shelton. |
Sink them all don't fart about with the stop watch.

Don't figure out how long it takes to sink ship - just sink it and move on
|
Often it's a good idea to finish it with the deck gun or stern torpedo tube. To make sure and then move out of the area before any enemy warship appears.

Running GWX? Nothing like bow shots to sink and/or stop a ship. With GWX I find the bow shots to be as reliable as the stern shots in non modded SHIII. 90% chance of sinking, if it doesn't sink 70% of those are dead in the water, of those still moving 100% chance of it running at reduced speed so it drops behind a convoy and can be picked off later. This is why I love GWX, in SH3 orig I hated severly listing boats still running at top speed with the convoy.

The C2/Medium Merchant is a heck of a tough ship.

Yeah the bow shot. I was attacking a convoy and as a snap shot i launched stern tube at large merchant only expecting it to cripple or miss completly. I shot bow tubes at heavy transports and they had no affect. I dove and got ship sunk message. I checked the map and it was behind me. So yeah i like bow shots now.

Should have finished it immediately when you found her dead in the water. The arrival of the DD is classical in this game.
|
yea i didnt know she is going to take hours to sink - well lets see what happens when the episode continues :p
|
well i came back at the black of night about 0830pm and she was still there so I shot an eel from the stern and she went down in two!
Then I went back to brest to conclude my 3rd war patrol. |
The longest time I saw for a ship to sink is about 2 hours. I think that if she has not sunk within a couple of hours, she will never sink, if you don't finish her with another torpedo or the deck gun.
