Tonnage Question
Hi Guys
just in regards shiping in WW2 and with relation to SH3 and to GWX I think the overall size of the ships in the game need to be looked at I think the average size for a ship in WW2 was about 5000-6000 tons but everytime I go on patrol all I usually see is a wall of 10000+ size ships I don't think there is enough smaller ships around like for instance I just sank 7 ships for 72259 grt all in convoy!!! now thats great to get so much tonnage but its a bit unrealistic no uboat commander sank that much in convoy attacks on a patreol during the way the only one that got close was Kretschmer in his last patrol and I have done it twice now the other being 6 ships for 74843 tons there just seems to me to be too many big ships in the convoys. I think personally smaller ships should make up about 75% and the rest big ships but at the moment it seems to be the other way around. I'm playing with the GWX mod at 82%. What are your thoughts on the matter. Cheers Easty |
just as an experiment... try it with no weapons officer assistance and see if your tonnage influx changes per mission. :hmm:
on 100% realism... if i encounter a convoy of large tankers i would have to shadow them for a week to rack up 72K tons. plotting your own solutions is a bit more difficult than the weapons officer finishing his magical 100% accurate solution in 2 seconds. and it takes a few minutes when you plot your own plus you have your margin of error built in. On a good night im lucky if i take down 3 ships before i have to start thinking about evading escorts. just out of curiosity... what was the information source for the tonnoge of the average merchant ship? i would like to research that  |

The problem is that SH3's ship inventory is "top heavy" (or perhaps more accurately, such ships appear too frequently). Those jack of 100K ton patrols on 100% realism have commented for a long time that SH3 needs smaller ships. Hopefully GWX 1.04 will go a way to addressing this imbalance by adding more smaller ships. |
