Indestructable Empire freighter(s)?

Hi all,

The other night I ran into a merchant contact which turned out to be an empire freighter, I lined up for the ideal fireposition and set the torpedo to magnetic impact. I hit the freighter just before the smokestack and was able to bring it almost to a complete stop (from 6knts to 2knts). I lined up again and fired 2 more torpedo's both set on impact 5 mtr. One hit about a quarter of the shiplength before the smokestack and the other about the same distance from the smokestack towards the front of the ship. Both torpedo's found their target and exploded setting most of the ship on fire. But the ship still wouldn't sink. (Came to a death stop though)

Waited for about 1hr game time but the ship didn't sink. So I used my last two torpedo's (IID boat) and hit the ship two more times in spots where there were no torpedo's impacted before.

Still didn't sink so after waiting another two hours gametime I decided to head home...

I am puzzled since I hit it 5 times and didn't sink....:damn:

Today I just finished another patrol and after sinking an ore carrier I stumbled into another empire freighter with the same problem only this time I only had three torps left before attacking. All three torpedo's were set for impact 5,5mtr. all three hit different sections of the ship......1 towards the back, one in the middle and one at the front......again no sinking....:stare:

Does anyone have an idea what might be the cause of this problem? I run the stock SH3 1.4 with only other ship mods and some graphic mods in combination with SH3 Commander 2.7.

Any suggestions are welcome...I like this ship but have to remove it if there is no solution for it..  :dead:

I cant help you here as the same thing happned to me but with a tramp steamer. Chacnes are the Empire class was multi bulkheaded. Wudda had better luck surfacing and firing your 20mm at it lol

yeah i get the same problems sometimes with small merchants that will not sink even after 2 fish (1 should even be enough) so i surface and finish her off with the deck gun.

Read a post not 20 mins ago where someone sank an Empire with one fish
Now if only I could find it :damn:

It was me guys ;) i fired one steam torpedo at 1m running depth with an impact pistol from 1700m at an AOB of approximately 50-55deg. It hit right under the smoke funnel and the ship sunk within 3 minutes.

Yup. The Empire will work/sink fine in GWX 1.04 when it is released.

(I sunk around 20 of them in testing before the original post was made.)

I've also sunk the Empire ship with one torpedo in my modified version of GWX 1.03 (Basically I added the ship via JSGME) and the sinking behaviour was perfectly fine.

Yep,same here, never had a problem with the empire freighter in GWX1.03 either sinks like a good'un,mind you its a different story with those passenger/cargo's:nope:;)

I sink the passenger/cargo's with 2 torpedoes everytime, and have never had any problems sinking the empire freighter either.

Empire+most prolificly named merchant class of ship during WWII and IMO the best looking ship in GWX v1.0* ;)
