"Take Her Down" TV show
I Wish!
I've read 6 first hand accounts of US sub service during WW2 and it struck me that there is a lot of good stories there. Surely enough to follow a fictional sub crew. The drama and tension of attack, the command conflict (ie O'Kane and Kennedy on Wahoo), deeds of rescue (aviators and Houston survivors), the horseplay of the crew, leaves back home, the home front, leaves in Brisbane/etc., love affairs, the boat's slot machine, stealing an ice cream machine from a BB, blowing up a train, and lots more. I can see the series starting with one sub just prior to Dec 7th. The series can expand the cast and stories to follow crew rotated to new subs. Some will die, most will survive. The stories can do what the 'Memphis Belle' movie did - show a composite view of being at war. There are plenty of subs still around and in good shape to use for filming. Then modern movie effects can fill in the rest. It would be neat to see. What do you think? Heck, this community could probable write the scripts. |
27 views and no comments. Well, I guess this show idea would never fly... um.. sail.
Thanks for looking though. |
I only get to post twice a day, so I just got here. I think it's a great idea. Never happen, but a great idea, along with similar shows about pilots, soldiers and other navies' submariners.
Of course back in the '50s there was Silent Service, which sort of did that. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050061/ |
"Silent Service", I didn't know about that. Thanks for the link. You're an endless source of information.

Maybe an underwater version of McHale's Navy would get more response. I can see it now, "Uh, Skipper.... well, Ensign Parker was just showing the nurses how the torpedo tubes work, and he kind of accidently fired a torpedo. It blew up Captain Binghampton's staff car...."
